wasn't as impressive as the reviews imply.
I booked based on the great reviews but wasn't as impressed as I could be. I switched to another hotel for the next day and am much happier. I had a private room and once you are paying double you can get something nicer and way bigger in the area.
I had to leave mainly because the wifi was too slow to make calls or work. The shower I used was only trickling and could barely rinse off if using warm water. The windows room was nearly useless and the fan in it constantly ran and was noisy. They say stay green and save water, but they make u buy bottled water for make a few pennies at the cost of plastic. Their income per room is higher than most nice hotels but the place seems to penny pinch more than the other hostels I see in bali, etc. If you have two people def choose elsewhere.
I've been traveling from Malaysia to Singapore and the Jojia staying at hostels. This is by far the best in terms of service, comfort and cleanliness. The hostel arranged for a motorcycle rental, Grab to airport. There is beer and water in the fridge, healthy free breakfast. The staff speak perfect English and they play music I know and love.
This is a really great place to stay on a budget - the beds are very private and the mattresses are extremely comfortable! Much more so than some more pricey hostels I've used before. The service is great, the receptionists are kind and have great suggestions for things like food and local attractions.
However, I would not recommend the area. Maliboro street, to which it is directly linked, is full to the brim with tourist traps and scam artists. Don't fall for people trying to sell you batik - they've bought it and are trying to resell it to you with a 'foreigner price'. I heard some real horror stories with that! Maliboro street is the only place I really experienced this en-mass, other places are much quieter and friendlier.
Overall a lovely little hostel.
Overall, this was a great choice for the price. The rooms are clean and well kept as were the bathrooms. The mall is just down the street so you have access to many restaurants and shopping. The staff were helpful with booking tours and taxis.
It is a quiet, no-shoe, no 4th-floor hostel . (Note: 4 is bad luck number for Chinese, just like number 13!).
I had a single room, large enough for a double bed and small space around it. It has a good size of a combined toilet-shower room.
There is a small cooking place in the middle of the first floor and 2/3 tables.
Free breakfast with bread, butter and jam plus banana and melon.
It is on Malioboro St, which has bus stop to go to the airport, Jombor (to go to Borobudur), Prambanan, and walking distance to the Kraton (Sultan palace) then Taman Sari (Water palace). Shopping is along Malioboro st.
Altamente recomendable
The location is good near to Jl.Malioboro & some other attraction places, food stalls.
The staff are very helpful, polite & friendly.
I would stay there again for my next trip to Yogyakarta.
