If you are looking for an experience, the Priory does not disappoint. The only room on the property for guests has ties to the Romans from the year 1070. The church itself is decommissioned, but continues to host concerts. Being from the United States, opportunities to be surrounded by such history do not exist. Paul, the owner is a wonderful host and chef. He speaks English quite well and loves to make his clients feel special and share his knowledge of the buildings freely. If asked if you would like dinner on the day of your arrival, absolutely accept. The food, the French countryside and ancient spaces are incredible. Be sure to bring cash to pay for dinner/wine as Paul does not take credit card. You will feel transported to another time and space if you decide to stay at the Priory.
What an amazing place. Paul made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. The property dates back to the 11th century church and is stunning. We relaxed in the gardens. Our room was very spacious and a lovely place to enjoy. The homemade evening meal was delicious. In the morning our breakfast was amazing - everything homemade - apple juice, bread, croissants, pains au chocolat, jams, honey and freshly laid eggs. Simply perfect. A beautiful getaway. We hope to stay longer next time!
This was our third stay at Le Prieuré with the wonderful hosts, Paul and Caroline. It is such a joy to travel towards Azay-le-Brule knowing what awaits us! A comfortable room, amazing food and the company of Paul and Caroline. Paul never ceases to amaze us with the exceptionally high quality of the food that appears, as if by magic, from the kitchen. It is as good as any top-class restaurants but you are the only diners with personal attention from the chef.
We cannot recommend this haven of tranquility highly enough. Don't miss it if you get the chance to stay. We shall return!!
This was our second stay at Le Prieuré and it felt like coming home. We couldn't have received a warmer welcome from Paul and Caroline. The hospitality is first class and we enjoyed another of Paul's wonderful dinners. We can't recommend a stay highly enough.
A tranquil, 5 star retreat. A gastronomic delight!
We had no idea what to expect when we arrived at Le Prieure. We discovered a beautiful, tranquil environment where we were the only guests ( the owners' philosophy, in order to enhance the quality of your stay).
Our room was simple but comfortable but we were invited to enjoy other rooms in the house. What we weren't prepared for was the amazing quality of the meals. Paul clearly has a passion for cookery but the wonderful dishes that he prepared for us were all prepared with local ingredients wherever possible. Breakfast consisted of home-made bread, home-pressed apple juice, honey from Paul's hives, home-made yoghurt and even nuts from the garden. We cannot recommend this wonderful home highly enough. Be prepared to be blown away by the standard of the food but remember to bring some loose-fitting clothing!
Paul and Caroline were exceptional hosts. The Priory is beautiful and a haven of quiet. Paul produces his own honey yoghurt breadEggs and concepts. He then produced the most wonderful dinner and the breakfast was a table laid and with the most wonderful food.
Helt fantastisk.
