Master room... clean, great bed, and nice decor. Assistance was prompt and helpful when needed. I was hoping the balcony had a view and a nice sunset. Unfortunately, it overlooked a busy street and powerlines.

To be fair, we usually stay in hotels. This was an old house, but we knew that. We did not know it was about 8 miles from Bar Harbor. We never saw the hosts. The bed was absolutely horrible. No support. It creaked. Probably the same age as the house. The shower was very tiny with no lighting. There was a tub and I had to use that in order to see. No Kleenexes supplied. We have stayed in B&Bs before and loved them. No breakfast, no personal contact.

Hello Ronald. We're sorry our property did not meet your expectations. All beds are new to Heathwood this season. Each person's bed preference is different so it's hard to find one type that will satisfy all. All the messages we send to our guest have our personal contact information included. Our address is listed on our website and every site we are listed on. No kleenex would be an oversight as our housekeepers are human and if contacted, we could have easily provided you with a box and with simple instructions on where the light switch is for the shower. We have never gotten a bad review about this particular room and find it sad that you did not enjoy your stay. Nonetheless, all the best and hope you got to enjoy Bar Harbor and Acadia

Beautiful Inn
Very beautiful quaint Inn, comfortable, clean and all contactless. Great price. Close enough to amenities but just far enough for the hustle and bustle. Enjoyed our stay!

Hi Leon. Bar Harbor is one of the safest places in the world; and as such, the main entrance is not necessary to be closed as all rooms are closed with coded locks. Hope you enjoyed our safe little town!

We extended our stay in Bar Harbor so needed a place for 1 night. We really enjoyed the Heathwood Inn. We loved sitting out on the deck enjoying the evening. We would have had coffee out there in the morning but we didn't think to bring the chair cushions inside so they were damp! The AC unit was fairly loud and the street was somewhat busy during the night but we still slept pretty well! We had the Master room which was comfortable and clean.

Nice area but noisy traffic on highway. Room was nice but too crowded with unnecessary furniture. Also, sliding patio door and screen were broken.

The terrible musty ( with fungus abd humidity) smell was unbearable when we opened the door. Another customer also checked the room and agreed... just too terrible smell. We could not stay even for 5 min. I heard that the owner has several properties neae there. The manager who does not live there received our call and sent another local manager in about 80-90 min. We were bitten by bad bugs or mosquitos on that evening while we were waiting. The evening was nightmare and panicking. We paid almost 300 dollars for King suite ( Breakfast invluded). We slepted in a small queen bed in an Air B&B apt....in a 6-8 mile distance...no breafast yet a better condition in terms of smell. Expedia or the hotel should give me a full refund ( at least half of the hotel fees that we paid). Please give me a credit that I can use in the future..spendable within 2 years if no refund is available.

Hi Mikyong. You were the first and only guest to complain of an odor issue to date; which we took seriously and promptly relocated you into an Air BnB apartment. Breakfast has not been offered at Heathwood for over four years so we apologise for any confusion or miscommunication in that area. All the best!

A self-service inn without a breakfast.
The Bad: The picture on Hotel.com of an amazing breakfast is FALSE advertising as is the title "B&B." All they have is self-served potato chips, granola bars and the like. Former guests help new guest figure out how to check-in because more than one person were not emailed the instructions (I missed it, so that could be my fault). Still, there is a phone number to call for help, but the cell phone service is on and off even with Verizon. This could be solved with a landline, but it seems that the proprietors don't want to be bothered too much - never saw them once during the 3 night stay. The bed was okay, and their sub-contracted cleaning service is fine. Just don't expect the usual B&B service and breakfast at this self-serve inn.

There is a landline in the lobby of Heathwood for just the purpose you stated as we know Cell phone service is spotty on the island and dependent on network choice. We are self check in and out but try to be available for anything a guest might have issues with or needs. All the best!

Disappointing
This property is promising in layout, furnishings, and the overall "look", but ultimately disappointing for several reasons: - The room carpets and bedskirts were dirty. Also, the cushions on the Master patio seats were so dirty I had to use a towel over them to avoid stains to my clothing. - There was no attendant, manager, or staff member on site during our stay. No one to greet us uppn arrival, no one to ask for local advice or recommendations . . . Nothing. Aside from the housekeeper (who was very nice) this is a "faceless" property. - The mattress was very uncomfortable for our backs. It's time for a replacement. - We were warned that there was no breakfast, so that wasn't a surprise. We were also told about snacks avaliable instead. Well, the snacks were basically small bags of chips, little else. Given that there are no breakfast locations within walking distance, how difficult and costly would it be to simply provide self service bagels and toast? A toaster already exists in the common area, so that's possible. Also, how costly would it be to provide a variety of granola bars? BTW, instant oatmeal was provided, but no spoons and bowls were provided so that wasn't very useful. Incidentally, we ran into other guests on our way out and they had the same complaints, so it wasn't just us seeing these issues. The issues above are easily fixable if the management wants to. Until then, i recommend looking elsewhere.

Although this property was not my personal favorite, it has the advantage that is away from the big crowds of the area and one can use the island transportation instead of car. The bathroom was clean and the hand held shower head gets an A from me. The self check-in/check-out makes it easy in some sense; personally I am not very fond of the lack of direct interaction, even for a couple of minutes.

A disappointing experience at Heathwood Inn
This is not really a hotel (as the place was advertised): it's a B&B without breakfast. There's nobody on the premises. We didn't receive an email with instructions, even though I called Heathwood Inn beforehand and was told that the email is coming. There is no cell phone service in the house (it's pretty bad in the area around Bar Harbor), so I had to walk out to get the instructions on the phone. For 2 1/2 days out of the three that we stayed there, there was no Wi-Fi service (and no cell phone service). It was fixed in the evening before we were about to leave. The air conditioner in the room is so loud that you cannot use it at night. The building is set close to the highway, so at night you cannot open the window because of the noise.

Hi Robert. Sorry our property did not meet your expectations for your one night stay; Since you are still with us; please check the settings on the AC and ensure it is on cool and below 70 degrees. When you say no "hair conditioner", are you saying the dispenser in the bathroom is empty? If so, we can have some for you before you check out. We have also never had any complaints about the WIFI strength; maybe try changing your position or using another device and see if that helps. All the best

While the decor and fixtures are dated the room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. Heathwood is close to Bar Harbor and Acadia - lovely 10 min drive with plenty of activity and dining options. Owners have a lovely common room with plenty of snacks. If we were staying longer for two nights I would seek out a larger, more updated option but this was a comfortable, quaint and charming two night stay for us at the end of a ten day trip.

This was a great stay. Everything was clean & a cute place. Great location! You need to remove the pics of breakfast from your website & note that you don’t serve it anymore. It was annoying to find that out after we booked & paid. The snacks, etc offered were sufficient but misleading a bit. A small shelf in the bathroom of Acadia would be appreciated. Otherwise loved our stay!

I actually never stayed here. The day before arrival, I was informed by the manager of the Heathwood Inn, that due to some problem, they can not accept me, and offered an upgrade to a "sister hotel" which turned out to be a cheap motel, next to the main road. After my complaint, they offered $20 difference. The Inn might be nice, but their practices are definitely not.

Comfortable stay
Heathwood Inn was a great place to stay. It was very private even though in a house. Check in and out was super easy. The bed was quite comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.

Stayed in the Master room. Clean. Comfy bed. Coffee maker in room. Check in was easy. Check out even easier. Disappointed there was no on site breakfast, but the voucher for Everyday Joe’s was nice. I would book again. Easy to communicate with owners. Definitely made some memories there.

Sleepless night
Our night here was very disappointing. No on site staff. Rooms def need some TLC. There was a loud banging noise under our room all night long which led to a very sleepless night. We first thought it was a mechanical issue which worried us to go to sleep with it doing it. Later determined to be some sort of sump pump or something kicking on and off all night. We did address it with Inn rep during the night but since the only way to contact anybody is texting or calling we received no response till morning. All we got was really sorry and they’d look into it. ( we’re sure they are aware of issue and most likely get it reported before) For the money paid it was disappointing.

We were very unhappy with the property. It is not as portrayed in Hotels.com…It is very dated in a not good way, somewhat run down. We received a text from the owner before our arrival that said breakfast would not be served but there would be a coupon on the bed for us to get breakfast in town. well that it was a disappointment as the bed and breakfast was described as having a phenomenal local foods breakfast. The text also had instructions about parking and the contactless check-in procedure. We followed the instructions went into the property and up to the room. It was musty and rundown and the mattress on the bed was so soft that we were both certain we could not sleep on it. We decided to leave and we found another place to stay in Bar Harbor. I was truly surprised at the actual state of the property versus how it appears online.

The rooms were small, but nice. Our biggest issue is that this property is listed as “breakfast included”. Breakfast was 8 miles away at a restaurant also owned by the owner of the hotel.

But we wanted to bring it back right away for our guests, so we started this voucher system. Don’t stay here.
The inn smelled of rotten milk. No innkeeper on site. Front door was kept unlocked and the only security is a bolt lock on your interior bedroom door. Breakfast was a voucher to a restaurant downtown. Sheets had stains, carpet had stains. Bed was uncomfortable. I can’t rationalize the positive ratings on this site or the price we payed.

Hi Alex,Sorry to hear that you did not had a good experience. Bar Harbor is pretty safe place so most of the residents really don't lock doors. We are locals here and we never had any issues with security. We basically don't lock our offices most of the times. For Inn, as guests are coming in and out, we prefer not to lock and but surely have locks in the rooms as you mentioned.Breakfast was not served for a while because of covid restrictions we had to follow but we wanted to bring it back for our guests as soon as possible, so we started this voucher system. We have put this in property description and have started to send info about it to guest in check in messages. We surely not intending to hide this from our guests.We have tried our best to have a reasonable price for rooms, we do review our price on weekly basis. Most of the business in Bar Harbor and Acadia Area close from November to around April/May, we basically only operate during a short summer and autumn season, that's why everything is bit expensive including accommodation, restaurants, grocery etc.We will definitely look into cleanliness details you talked about, we certainly don't want to compromise on the quality of cleaning.Thank you again for choosing us for your holiday.RegardsHeathwood Inn

A neutral review
The room was fine, however there are a few things that could have improved the stay. The owner did not meet us at any point of our stay. She did email us and included a phone number. Upon texting it, as were part of the instructions, the text came back saying the number was invalid. We were trying to text to let her know the Wi-Fi was not turned on. The hotel is listed as a bed and breakfast and breakfast was off site. There was no mention that daily housekeeping was not going to happen. While daily housekeeping was not necessary, fresh towels would have been nice. There was consistent rambling sounds all day and night and there was no one to ask what that sound was.

Road noise in our master suite kept me up most of the night. Finally turned on AC to drown out noise even though we didn’t need it. I thought there was a real breakfast not instant oatmeal. Driving 15 minutes to use a breakfast certificate is NOT the usual bed and breakfast offer. Location was good except for horrible road noise.

Hi Laurie,Sorry to hear about the disturbance you had from road noises. Bar Harbor does get busy during peak season. Regarding breakfast, we had to stop serving breakfast for a while because of the covid restrictions we had to follow. But we wanted to bring it back right away for our guests, so started this voucher system. We are trying our best to be transparent on this, adding it to property description, in check in messages etc. We definitely not intending to hide it from our guests. The voucher gives access to range of breakfast options.
