"Pros: kitchen was well-equipped, the salsa class on Thursday was so fun (!!), hostel felt secure and people (both staff and travellers) were warm and friendly, felt completely fine walking to and from the hostel at night even though it’s right on the edge of Getsemaní & the more tourist friendly historic centre. The one con: we got bedbugs from there. It happens when you travel, what can ya do! If that is something that is a big no for you, keep that in mind. If not, wash your clothes & shoes...

"For some unknown reason this place was already rated "excellent" whereas there was no previous reviews. So I felt a little bit manipulated as this place without being bad was way overrated. Although the place is generally clean, it nis not maintained properly. Some stuffs need some fixing. The room I stayed in for almost 10 days had suffered water leakage in the wall which resulted in traces on the wall which has not been redone or even painted. "This is the worst hotel experience ever. They said they didn’t have our (prepaid!) reservation, and we should simply pay for a new room in cash. We arrived on the last day of the year with 2 small kids, but the owner was very very rude. He didn’t even do an extra search for our reservation. We ended up leaving. The hotels.com chat function didn’t work for us so unfortunately the hotel did receive our prepaid funds; they get our honest review in return. I sincerly recommend not going to this...

"The receptionist spoke no English. The room had no safe. A cockroach was in the room. There was no “Tranquility” at Freedom Beach. Not anything near what was expected. The only quiet time is after 20:00 hours when the crowds which start arriving at 9:00, have gone home. Disappointed. The bathroom was so poor, I couldn’t take a shower or sit on the toilet. "
