  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. The hotel's location was good, a little far from the city center, but walkable. The room was nice, with a great view of the canal. By American standards the room was cool, set at 68, but the duvet was more than enough to keep warm. The breakfast was very good.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Wouldn't recommend the standard room though, very small with a tiny bathroom - would recommend paying a bit extra for a bigger room. Breakfast was very nice

The best thing I can say is that the location is excellent. It is a very basic hotel, with very small rooms. The breakfast was quite good. You have to pay extra for things like a blow dryer, shampoo, extra pillows. We didn’t have to pay For the blow dryer as we were staying a week.

Lovely stay

This isn't anywhere, fancy hotel. It is old and parts of it are run down. But it's adorable and very Charming. The location was perfect. The staff was amazing. I would definitely come back!

Rooms were clean that flex facilities and I was old and showing where breakfast is good. Staff was nonexistent due to the fact it’s a self check in and self check out and the room was oversold. It’s supposed to have a river view and everything else and I’ve had this tiny little window Not, but they show on the Internet.

Had a super time at the hotel ..our double window opened onto the canal which was great to wake in the morning..the reception staff and manager were always ready to help with any questions..breakfast was a great extra too.

We were fortunate to have a room where the window opened directly to the canal. Room was very tiny and basic but having the canal view with swans swimming up to say hello each morning made it magical. The hotel was undergoing renovations but this did not impact our stay . Breakfast was adequate and coffee delicious. Hotel was walking distance to everything we wanted to explore in Bruges and convenient to use bus to central train/ bus station. We would stay again

The unmanned check-in process was super easy, it's a short walk to the Square and Belfry, the staff were very accommodating and we were able to store our bags after checkout. We staying in a canal view room, the view was amazing

Even though the hotel was undergoing renovations, this did not impact on our stay. It is a lovely independent hotel with a very friendly staff and good choices for breakfast. This is my second stay and would certainly be my preferred choice and recommend to anyone.

My only complaint is the trouble I had tryin to get in when I arrived in early evening. I have no smart-phone, and found the keypads outside the door would not work (e.g. there was no hash sign, so impossible to key in the details I had been sent). Luckily, someone came out after I had spent about 10 minutes trying to get in. The manager and staff could not have been more helpful and I had a very confortable stay, athough shower room was very tiny!
