Worst Hostel Experience Yet

I showed up and they told me I hadn’t booked. I showed them my hotels.com confirmation email and receipt. They said they never received the payment even though I had the receipt. They then made me pay for a full room which ended up costing more than what the room I booked online was. I also had bed bugs bite my legs during the stay.

I don't understand why there are good reviews

We booked a room in Thambili Island because of good reviews. Sadly, we were completely disapointed, since in our room there was an intensive smell of mold (maybe because the room had no window and a not-working A/C). The room was far away from that on the online pictures. We were shown another room with similar conditions - not so bad as the first one - but enough to let us search another accomodation in Colombo.

la stanza era maleodorante di muffa, il letto troppo molle, i servizi igienici in condizioni non integre, per non parlare poi della morbosa e maniacale intenzione di controllare chiunque entrasse o uscisse dalla mia stanza, esigendo sempre documenti da fotocopiare e, totalmente irritante e non professionale, chiedere il perché della visita e ancor peggio commentare su chi fosse entrato precedentemente: una situazione veramente surreale e imbarazzante. inoltre, la stanza era situata esattamente all'ingresso della struttura con reception di fronte, la zona living su un lato e un patio dall'altro in cui si stanno svolgendo opere di ristrutturazione: il fastidio sonoro era dunque notevole. stavo quasi dimenticando di aggiungere che di notte sono rimasto anche chiuso fuori per dei minuti: nessuno mi aveva avvisato della chiusura notturna e dopo un po' di campanello e bussate un addetto è finalmente uscito facendomi anche sentire in colpa e chiedendomi invadentemente dove fossi andato. sconsiglio vivamente a chiunque di soggiornare qui.

DO NOT STAY HERE.

DO NOT STAY HERE. First of all there is construction-constant loud banging and sawing starting at 8 AM. The bigger problem is the dishonest staff though. I booked the room rate for breakfast and asked for breakfast. They said it wasn't included in my room rate. I showed them on the hotels.com site that it was. They said unless hotels.com would call them they would not give me breakfast. So I wasted my time having hotels.com call them. Hotels.com did call to verify that yes my rate includes breakfast. They still refused to give it to me and said just "we don't do that." Yeah this place is cheap and could be fine otherwise, but in 50+ countries I've never had a hotel or a hostel just be flat out jerks that way.

Great hostel but beware building work

This is a great hostel but beware! there is building work going on at the moment which I didn't know about before booking and paying. The room was very clean and comfortable as was the bathroom. The staff are friendly and helpful, although the wifi is not great - 4g was much faster. It's close to everywhere, walking distance to shops and a short tuk tuk ride to the centre 400rs. I'd have given this 4 out of 5 but like I said there's building work going on to expand the hostel. If you're just using this as a place to sleep at night then it'll be fine. If however you like the option of returning mid day and escaping the mid day sun you won't get any sleep due to fairly frequent hammering, angle grinding and drilling. I say this as I think it's only fair to let people know before they book.

Comfy place to stay

A great place to stay. Great value for money and great staff. Location wise, it's a long walk to the 'main tourist attractions' of Colombo.

good hostel, with super nice staff

I think the staff was so kind and they really take their guests seriously. they greeted me with tea upon arrival, which was nice. later they arranged a car transfer to me even at short notice for a reasonable price. I also took the dropoff to the airport at 3 am, and they picked me up punctionally when agreed. The woman doorm had a shower and two toilet solely for women in the room. Most beds offer big lockers, but all included lockers. All beds have own universal charging sockets and a reading lamp. Also towel included. A random guy intruded into the girls room and the staff immediately took action to remove him and bann him from the premises before us even realizing something wrong was going on. So safety is not a worry in this place. You can buy beer and softdrinks at the hostel, and there's places for food just around the corner. Breakfast was cooked upon request. There was construction going on, but it didn't pose any noise. I'm sure the rooftop will be great when finnished. All in all its a chill and calm hostel, not a party hostel. Because of the staff, I'd recommend this hostel anyday for a visit in Colombo. It's not in the middle of the center, but I liked the calmer surroundings. You can easily access the place by tuktuk or bus.
