I got stuck at the Liberia airport and all the smaller hotels around were booked. Thank goodness the airport had Internet and I found this little gem. I got a cab which cost about $65 American and headed out there. Had a nice comfy little cottage but don’t expect a western chain hotel experience it’s more like going to summer camp. But it was super adventurous and fun. The people were warm and hospitable, and it was wonderful to be so close to nature. Next time I’ll consider this place and enjoy more of the adventure amenities like zip lining and horseback riding. I really did enjoy the mud bath and the natural geothermal pools they had. There also was a very lively pool with some bartenders who were making some outstanding cocktails. I got this virgin passionfruit drink that was just outstanding.

This is a nice place close to Liberia airport. We've stayed here twice. We wish the cabins had a refrigerator, and a microwave. Sadly, the last morning, while sitting on the front porch, we were attacked by a swarm of black wasps, very painful -not sure if the hotel controls them or not. Overall, we like this place and may stay again next year.

We stayed at this resort by chance for one night due to starting our vacation early because of winter weather in the states. I prefer more authentic Costa Rican hotels/resorts vs a chain hotel close to the airport. While the taxi ride was more expensive, I felt it was worth it. It seemed secluded, was quiet, the rooms were extremely clean, there were thermal pools as well as a nice pool area and the included breakfast was definitely a plus! The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced! We had the pleasure of talking with Julian, who was a joy. I always love to learn about different cultures and people from other countries. Would highly recommend this place if you're considering this area. I would love to go back and spend a little more time in this area. My only suggestion is to add a golf cart or something to take people and their luggages to their room. We were at the very back of the resort and it was a bit of a walk with our luggage. All in all a great stay!

Great experience, wonderful stuff. We enjoy the thrmo pools, mud baths, and natural steam cave. The place have do much to do, beautifully set swimming pull and swim up bar, food was good, and staff make you feel at home. Will visit again on our next trip to costa rica.

This was a cool spot. Beds are great, bathroom was very dated and toilet had some issues with the water flushing properly but we just jiggled the handle each time and eventually it worked. There was a large group there likely a wedding, so we did the buffet which was just average, then found out it was $27 a plate! The restaurant has better food with better prices. Spa isn’t much of a spa so much as it’s just some plunge pools. Could be so much more. Cool experience but little pricey for what you get.

Amazing!!! My flight was cancelled and the airport hotel was booked so I found the cheapest place around and boy was I thrilled!!! Pools, spa, beautiful grounds, spacious cabins/rooms, a river, tubing, horseback riding, zip lines, holy cow!!! I am so lucky to have found it!!!

Very close to the airport and our vacation needs. The breakfast is a traditional meal (beans, fruit, pancake rice, plantain), the lunch/supper area has a variety of selections enough for our 9 day stay. We were disappointed that there are no longer spa staff for any spa services and breakfast is only until 9am. We also lost power to our cabin 2-3 times during our stay. Also please note when you book a “cabin” they have semi cabins that share a thin wall (like a townhouse) which we were not expecting. Staff go above and beyond to help. We loved that there was lack of people and that there were activities on-site. Recommendation for the site, please add “do not disturb” signs to cabins so staff don’t walk-in on guests :)

Beautiful grounds, Clean,comfortable beds, great food, friendly service. Swimming pool, hot spring pools, and river swimming area were great amenities. We would stay here again and recommend to all.

We loved staying at Canon de La Vieja Lodge for our first few nights in Costa Rica. It was a short distance from the airport and close to the National Park. Lots to explore in the area. The property had many activities to enjoy. Even though the property is popular with tour groups we never felt it was crowded and always found quiet areas to enjoy by ourselves. We greatly appreciated the hot water pools down by the river as well as the main pool with it's swim up bar. Highly recommend this Lodge. Keep in mind it has an eco lodge vibe. There are many animals as well as insects.

Admittedly, we discovered this lodge because our flight from the Liberia airport was unexpectedly cancelled. We had spent a long, awful day at the airport and it was rather late when I booked through Expedia. (The airline had no accommodations planned for travelers. Ufff). I was SO relieved that the staff were willing to stay open late to receive us. They even asked the restaurant staff to stay late so we could all get something to eat before bed. The natural surroundings and nature are beautiful. The breakfast was a perfect Tico breakfast with gallo pinto and huevos. I am so grateful to have had a safe, clean cabin with air-conditioning in which to stay. Would highly recommend!

Great place to stay close to Liberia airport on your last night. Rustic feel with nice pool and soaking tubs overlooking the River. Ziplining was fun too!! Would stay again! Justin from Montreal.
