"Had a wonderful 10 night stay at Shantara. We loved being so close to Macrossan st and the beach, while the pool was an amazing end to each day. The Hotel was peaceful, beautiful and quiet. As is normal for Far North Queensland, there is not everyday cleaning service but we don’t use that anywhere anyway. Plenty of parking, but if you didn’t bring a car everything is walking distance with shuttle bus options for longer journeys. The only black mark of the stay were our neighbours on the pool...

"Outstanding lodge in a nature reserve with great facilities and friendly helpful staff. The chalet accommodation was spotless, comfortable and very well equipped, and the location in the nature reserve was great. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Only stayed one night, but wish we had stayed at least one more. Having said that, it was not cheap, but good value for what was on offer."

"On arrival after being told we were able to check in at 12.00 PM we were informed that our accomodation would not be ready before 14.00. This was unacceptable as we had a wedding to attend at 13.50. The female behind the counter (owner i pressume) told us the previous people would not leave on time. She was not interested in my dilemma and became very hostile she told us we were free to find other accommodation elsewhere which would be impossible at this late hour. When I tried to ask if perhaps...

"The location of the hotel was excellent right in the middle of Port Douglas can walk everywhere. The main part of the room was quite small so it felt very cramped with our luggage. The bathroom was large, and the shower was very comfortable. The one major drawback for us was that there was a lot of scares climbing up and down to the second floor. Due to our very large and full luggage, it was very difficult climbing up and down."

"Difficulty in checking in after hours. Instructions were confusing and no one was reachable by phone. After managing to check in, the room was not set up for 2 single beds that had been booked. Spoke to staff next morning & they were very helpful in upgrading us to a beautiful suite"
