"Stayed here through Expedia and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. We arrived at 9am and later asked around 12pm if early check-in was possible, even for an extra fee. Fair enough if unavailable, but staff were dismissive and seemed more interested in chatting than helping guests.
When we finally got the room, it involved two flights of stairs, which was difficult travelling with my 70-year-old mother. The room itself was dirty, the bathroom covered in grime, and the window had been painted shut so it couldn’t be opened to air out moisture. There was also no room service, meaning the same towels had to last 3.5 days.
The bed and pillows were badly worn out. I slept terribly all three nights and woke with neck and back pain each morning. Basic comfort should be the minimum expectation.
We also ate downstairs in the pub using the guest discount. It was some of the worst food we’ve had. The fried rice was a greasy bowl of vegetables with barely any rice, and the chicken burger came on a stale, soggy bun with poor flavour. When concerns were raised, the young staff member simply shrugged and walked away. Later another staff member admitted the head chef was off and the replacement cook had no idea what they were doing.
Overall: poor service, poor cleanliness, uncomfortable rooms, terrible food and no real care for guests. Would not stay again."
