Top Barrow-in-Furness District Hotel Reviews

Lakes Hotel and Spa
10/10 Excellent
"All staff were amazing, from the helpful concierge at the gate upon arrival, to the reception team and everyone in between. Faultless experience on each of our previous visits also. Great stay!"

The President Hotel
2/10 Terrible
"This is one trip my wife is not going to let me forget in a hurry. On entering the room there was a very unwelcome smell which wasnt filling me with much confidence. My wife entered the bathroom to then ask me were is the shower aw oh surely theres a shower no only a bath. There was rust build up on the frame holding the mirror up in the bathroom not doing any good for my wife`s blood pressure. One look at the carpet and and there was a 2 inch gap between the edge of the carpet and skirting board all round room. To calm my wife down i suggested a cup of tea only to have to tell her sorry love there is hand wash gel sat in the bottom of the kettle and mould " could this get any worse ". I said to my wife i did book a seaview room hoping to gain some browney points to which the reply was " great if the windows were clean i could see the sea". Off we went out to enjoy our night and forget about were we would lay our heads later on our return to hotel we popped into bar for a drink only to be told £10 minimum spend when paying with card. Quick drink was had and off up to our room to sleep once in bed and lights off we notice light coming into room through a 2 inch gap between door and door frame. Please think twice before booking this place. Its safe to say our next break away will be booked by wife as i think she will have more confidence in our 9 year old before her Husband."

Grand Hotel Blackpool
2/10 Terrible
"Upon arrival into the council estate hotel car park, beware of local travellers, as you you find your way in, there is No clear signage nor anyone to great you. At first I thought I had walked into a abandoned hotel from the 90’s I managed to find my way up to the reception floor where it was empty and a young man desperately trying to deal with a local travellers, a phone call and myself trying to check in. Considering the position he was left in, he was doing really well. Got the keys to our 2 rooms on the 7th floor, once we opened the door, both rooms absolutely wreaked of cigarettes and B.O. both rooms smelled the same, so not just a one off. Clearly not had new carpets since smoking was banned. There is no Air conditioning or venting, the rooms apart from the window which you can crack open an inch. Lucky we were too tired and went to bed, but the local druggies outside kept us awake from 1.00am until 4.00am screaming. It was a mixture of faulty towers and Grand theft Auto combined into one nightmare. Breakfast finishes at 9.00, when we arrived looked ok, but not really a selection, the coffee machine was out of order, when I asked the only member of staff, where can I get a coffee, she said I would have to have the juice. We reluctantly ate some kind of an egg and bean with overcooked sausage breakfast and left politely left without causing a scene. We booked this hotel, because it has a pool and a gym, the pool and gym were closed. Terrible hotel, Do not book it."

Lindeth Howe Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"The hotel was amazing with large, clean rooms and beautiful, large grounds with amazing flowers ponds and trees. The breakfast was amazing. The place has lots of history as Beatrix Potter lived there. There was plenty of parking and it is in a great location, near Windermere."

Park House Hotel
8/10 Good
"On arrival it was a quick check and the lady on reception was pleasant. £10 a night to park the car. We arrived in our room which was small, dated, hard bed and not to our taste but it’s Blackpool and we thought we would only stay for 1 night instead of 2. At 2am we had been out, had some food and we were just going to sleep when water started coming through the ceiling on the head of our bed. I went and found a staff member and I was worried for a while as he said there were no more rooms! He did find us one and it was a lot better. Good size, more tastefully decorated, sea view, we couldn’t complain. We ended up staying both nights it was comfortable and clean. We didn’t eat in the hotel. If you want to go into town it is a 10 minute walk. My only negative (not the water, it wasn’t the hotels fault) is they didn’t come and apologise for what happened and had we not only just gone to bed and been fast asleep I perhaps would have been annoyed. A small gesture goes a long way and an apology would have been appreciated"

Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa
4/10 Poor
"We booked this trip and paid good money for a room with a balcony. On arrival we was told that the hotel car park was more then likely full due to the weather even though we didn't need to pre-book, not the best start. The que on reception was also extremely busy and only 1 member of staff on. We asked to reserve a table in the restaurant and was told it was full due to the weather (yes it was the best of the year so far) surely the residents should receive priority after booking, we didn't. We used the bar for drinks again this was sometimes a 20-30 minute wait and again poor from the staff with no cohesion as to who was next and waiting first, the communal areas are a little dated and shabby but this could be so much better with some TLC and staff who are much more approachable. If it wasn't for the weather this would have been one of the worst trips of 2026 for us."

The Imperial Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"I loved the history of the hotel. The kids enjoyed being there. The tram was right in front of the hotel. We had a good view of the beach and the tower. There were steps which we were told were for emergency exit. At first we thought they led down to the reception but wow they looked "scary" Maybe the hotel should put a inscription that the door to the stairs is for emergency"

Lakeside Hotel & Spa
10/10 Excellent
"What a gem, I have never been to the Lake District before and my jaw dropped the second you pull into the car park. I had made a note that we were celebrating a few special occasions and were given an upgrade I believe and a lovely card when we got to our room. The hotel is really easy to find your way around, nice staff, good food and drinks (malibu sunset was a personal fave). The lamb shank was delicious for a Sunday roast. The pool and spa was great as well. Lakeside hotel and spa is a little slice of heaven, outside with all the ducks so comfortable around people and having boats you can rent right on the dock outside is amazing. I love they give you duck food and had milk and cookies out one evening. One night my partner wanted to eat in the pub there and I really fancied Mac and cheese off the room service menu and they made it for me at the pub- that’s outstanding customer service! I’d love to come back here again! I’ll never forget this holiday or hotel. Thank you for making our stay so lovely. Highly recommend!"

Doric Hotel
8/10 Good
