The biggest issue was the massive 24/7 construction noise, which affected sleeping, the beach, the breakfast area and the overall atmosphere throughout the stay. Unfortunately, there was no indication of this when we made the booking.
Several aspects did not reflect the usual W experience:
– Gym: externally located (third party) in a public building and shared with non-hotel guests, which breaks the exclusive W feeling
– Half-board concept: confusing and largely takes place in neighbouring Westin/LeMéridien restaurants rather than within the W itself
– The signature W restaurant is also excluded and operated by a third party (we only discovered this after being seated)
The beach experience lacked the vibrant W vibe due to construction noise and neighbouring beach clubs.
We also had significant room issues. After changing rooms once to escape the noise, the second room had a strong sewage smell overnight, making sleep impossible and forcing another early room change. This was the final reason for us to check out early and move to another hotel.
The on-site staff were consistently friendly and professional. However, the offered Bonvoy points were disappointing, as they can hardly be used to book comparable W hotels during common holiday seasons. Even more frustrating was the follow-up with Marriott customer service: after my second email I never received any reply.
Expedia was very, very helpfull in this situation and supported us absolutely problematically.
