"The location was great. The room was ok for a night However I could hear everything from the room next door and out in the hall. I think the rooms next door was worse because it appears to be a joining room. The bed was apparently a double but there is no way you could fit 2 people in there comfortably. There was quite a bit of wear and tear in the bathtub (big chips out of the enamel and the whole bathroom could do with a revamp. Breakfast was great. Bit of a downside that they don’t do dinner meals (wasted opportunity) but there is a really good whetherspoons restaurant just around the corner."

"Lovely old house with traditionally furnished rooms. Off road parking to the rear and the town is only 10-15 minutes away. Great hosts and breakfast."

"Tea was excellent and a great variety. Service always excellent and staff friendly and accommodating. We stayed a couple of days and if back in that area I would stay at this hotel."

"This was the Hilltop hotel which has come a long way since its heyday. The car park is good for a first impression but the broken hotel board on the building as you go to reception tells a different story. Booking in was quick and easy and the receptionist was friendly and efficient. Our room was on the second floor but no lift so got our exercise for the day! Corridors were well lit and the carpet was clean and tidy and the walls had recently been painted white. The room was clean as were the towels and bed linen. Small wardrobe and two bedside cabinets together with a desk and chair which had a kettle with tea and coffee for a quick cuppa. Bathroom with shower also clean and tidy with soap dispensers but no other toiletries. Room felt a bit spartan but serviceable. Bed was a little hard but we got a full nights sleep with no noise from anywhere in the hotel. Breakfast room was a little spartan but also clean and tidy with plenty of tables and chairs available. There was cereal available together with fruit juice and hot drinks. Standard sliced white or brown bread for the toaster which was quick. Hot plate had a good selection: Bacon, Sausage, Hash browns, beans, tomatoes, fried eggs and mushrooms. All very tasty and well cooked. It was self service / buffet with staff around but we only had to check in for the breakfast with no issues. View from the rear of the hotel was worth seeing (hills / trees). Not the worst hotel we have stayed in but not the best either for 1 night"

"Enjoyable three night break. Friendly helpful staff. Very comfortable bed , room cleaned every day and were allowed to park at the hotel next door. As previously mentioned they serve a great breakfast . Five minute drive to town centre but pub and takeaway nearby. Will book again next time that we visit Dumfries."

"Parking was easy & we didn’t use the car again during our stay. The hotel is great for exploring the city. We would recommend it for a short stay in the city."
