"Rude staff and manager, food has gone downhill"

"We had a wonderful time at Zachary Dunes resort during spring break! I have to say that because of several bad reviews here on Google Maps, we had some doubts about this place, but after considering what's important to us on a vacation, we still decided to book it and we did not regret this decision. Here's a summary of our thought process, why we chose to book, and our overall experience. We were looking for a nice resort on the beach in the area between Santa Barbara and LA and this hotel met all criteria. We wanted nice rooms, ocean access without a highway separating us from beach, a fun swimming pool and a whirlpool. Zachary Dunes had it all and was a lot cheaper than other hotels that were closer to Santa Barbara. Most bad reviews focused on some noise in the rooms, no real ocean view in the rooms labeled as "partial view" (thank you dear reviewer who wrote that - we decided to spend $20 more per night for full ocean view and it was stunning!), and people unhappy about parking being extra cost. Oh - and someone complaining about avocado toast costing $19. Our perspective? Noise is manageable and understandable given many of the guest are families with young kids like us. View from the room - was totally worth the extra cost for better view. Parking - unfortunately, this seems to be the standard in California and they were transparent about it when we booked so it wasn't a surprise. Just ask how much it is in advance and add it to your budget."

Everything felt fresh, modern, and well-maintained, from the crisp linens to the spotless bathroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable, making it easy to unwind after a long day. I also appreciated the small details—ample lighting, quiet surroundings, and reliable Wi-Fi—that made the stay both comfortable and convenient. The hotel’s amenities were equally impressive. The common areas were clean and inviting, and it was clear that great care is taken to maintain a high standard throughout the property. Whether it was enjoying a peaceful morning coffee or simply relaxing in the space, everything felt well put together. What truly stood out, however, was the level of service. Every interaction with the staff was positive—they were courteous, responsive, and genuinely seemed to care about guest satisfaction. It’s rare to find that level of consistency. Overall, this hotel delivers outstanding value, comfort, and service. I would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable experience."

"The location is great, the staff is great. This is the first motel I have ever lodged in that had no microwave in the rooms. The towels were clean but dingy. The A/C Heat did not work properly. Hopefully this location will make the necessary upgrades soon."

"Location was terrific. Next to the Mission. And only a few blocks to the beach. Lots of nearby restaurants on thrift shop walking street with a😀 Saturday market Breakfast was sufficient but nothing special "

"This hotel was clean and comfortable. staff were friendly. Loved that it provided breakfast and they also had many options . They also provided happy hour and snacks on Saturday from certain time. It was great time. Parking was free . I would stay there again if I am in the area. "
