"the first room i was assigned smelled of smoke (non smoking rooms). the floor was swept but very dirty. the wall by the bathroom and front door were plastered and unpainted. after assigning me another room, the clerk would not answer the doorbell (the lobby was locked in the late afternoon). 1 attempt at the doorbell, i began to leave and noticed the clerk came and turned around not acknowledging me. after several more attempts to summon the clerk via the doorbell while standing outside the outside service window, i called their phone number. i could hear it ring. the clerk then came to answer the phone and saw it was me. i wanted ice, the machine was padlocked closed. i was nothing but courteous."
Comfort Inn Arcata - Humboldt Area

"I enjoyed my stay at the Comfort Inn in Arcata. The room was well-designed and nicely lit. There was plenty of free parking and the hotel was close to the freeway and to lovely stretches of forested areas, but not so close that I was constantly aware of traffic. The bathroom was well appointed, and the towels didn't have that threadbare feel that some hotels have. I would definitely stay here again."

"Very cool old hotel with an awesome lobby. This was an iconic hotel in its day. The restaurant/bar was not open the night we stayed which was disappointing. The hotel room is where we were disappointed. The room had a connecting door to the next door room so we could hear our neighbors (even coughs during the night). The bathroom was very small and the door hit the toilet. The TV must have been on WIFI which didn't work well so we could not watch TV. For such a fancy hotel, the breakfast was not very good - just basic."

"Was surprised at the property and location. Not as plush as I expected from the pictures. Classic beach hotel and classic beach upkeep. The staff was great. The location was sketch. However the spa was lovely but chilly to get there."

"Very new building, all new furniture and appliances, the room was bright and clean and smelled nice. Light! A lot of light in the room, we love bright light! I would call it euro-style hotel, it might not have a chic of the expensive chains, but feels fully functional and fresh. Lily at the front desk (I think that was her name) was really nice and helpful. I would say that they might consider adding a microwave, since they have a refrigerator and coffee-maker. This was one of the thing we missed. It looks like they are working on the adding a restaurant on the property too, but it was under construction while we stayed."
