"We were unhappy with the quality of the room. The issues were as follows: The floors and bathroom were dirty with mould inside and outside the shower. The cistern was cracked with what appeared to be attempts to glue it back together. The bedding and one of the towels was stained. The upper cupboards where the glasses were stored upside down were dirty with dust and dirt touching the glasses. We found a dead cockroach in one of the lower drawers. The room was never serviced over the 4 nights we stayed there - not even the rubbish was removed. We requested fresh towels on day three but the old towels were never taken away. Two live cockroaches were seen in the room and dispatched down the toilet. The fly screen had a damaged open corner where insects could have easily entered the room. One of the beds easily rolled away from the wall, allowing the pillows to drop down the gap. Overall, our expectations of an "Expedia approved" 4-star hotel, were clearly not met. The only good aspect of this hotel is the great atmosphere in the small bar at the back of the grand lobby area, where the bar staff and live music made up for the shocking room quality!"

"I had a beautiful view of the ocean from my room, so was treated to gorgeous sunrise from the balcony. As the hotel is very central, it can be a bit noisy at night but that should ease up by 10pm."

"Check in took forever Carpet in room had a hole in it covered up by masking tape Beds worn out Door into room was not unlocking Shower only just. Outside noise shocking and you could hear people talking in the corridor Hotel was cheaper than others and I now know why!!"

"I had no issue with the property as we didn't stay there. We tried to book the property via the Hotel website for a date in June but there was no availability. However, the web site said that rooms were available via Expedia. I clicked on the link assuming that the dates we had already selected would carry accross. We booked a room in the Hotel through Expedia. We received a confirmation email and noted that the date booked was that day not the June date. We tried to call the number shown on the Expedia email and the recording said that the number didn't exist. We then called the Hotel and cancelled the booking for that night and they said they would contact Expedia. We received an email advising that the reservation falls within the cancellation penalty window. We were assured that our concern had been forwarded, and they would assist us in ensuring the cancellation is processed that same day. We have not heard anything since and despite cancelling immediately we paid the full fare for the room."
The Star Grand at The Star Gold Coast

"The only thing impinging on our stay was the car park. We had great difficulty finding the way out. There were very few signs (2 that I saw), and these small and faded. We drove round and round for 10 minutes, up and down the levels, without finding the exit, and getting increasingly frustrated. At last we managed to follow another visitor out. Please invest in some more, larger, and brightly lit signs. Apart from that issue as we left the hotel, everything else was great. Staff at the entrance and check in were wonderful - pleasant, helpful and efficient. Nothing was a problem."

"The room was fine, there were a few little things that I noticed that could’ve done with a proper clean. The bed was awful. We stayed three nights and by the third both of us were nearly crippled. The breakfast buffet was a tad disappointing, though the staff there were fantastic. There was issues with hot water and we ended up with barely warm water for the last night and morning showers. Reception staff were super friendly upon check in and out. Location is good too, tucked away like it is. It’s quiet and we didn’t hear road noise. Food was really great!"
