Highland Resort Hotel & Spa
10/10 Excellent
"Absolutely loved my stay, the views of Mt. Fuji from my room was unreal and the room itself was beautiful, huge and clean loved it."

Fujisan Onsen Hotel Kaneyamaen
8/10 Good
"We loved our stay here. We stayed in a room with a private onsen and a garden. Honestly, garden room is a way better choice than Fuji view since Fuji isn’t always visible. Staff was great. Food was ok- the staff also didn’t read our notes to them that we had allergies and on the first night because of this we couldn’t eat half the food. They did apologize and made up for it the last night. Our room in the outdoor shower had some mold. In the indoor shower, someone else’s hair was left in there (we know it wasn’t ours because we noticed it right as we walked in). The hotel itself smells a little fishy and weird but you get used to it. We also got a massage at the spa and it was incredible. Overall, a nice getaway from busy Tokyo."

Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora by IHG
8/10 Good
"The hotel was great but Hakone not so much. I got a river view which also included an industrial looking neighborhood. Probably not worth the expense. The restaurant was pricey but outstanding. Worth the bill."

HOTEL MYSTAYS Fuji Onsen Resort
10/10 Excellent
"Great property, the area generally shuts down after sunset so was great to have a hotel that had a great dinner & breakfast option. Good location too just minutes in a cab from the station."

The Fujiya Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Very nice"

Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya Ryokan
10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful setting, the private bath outside the room was a highlight of our trip, so special. The Kaiseki dinner made the whole experience feel authentic and the food was lovely, high quality."

Hakone Kowakien TEN-YU
10/10 Excellent
"The food selection was amazing and when our A/C didn’t work in one of our rooms, they quickly relocated us to another set of rooms, with a beautiful view and massage chairs! The kids loved it!"

Toyoko Inn Fuji Kawaguchiko Ohashi
6/10 Okay
"Not what we were expecting (it was really big which is not the type of place we normally stay) but if you are just having a couple of nights it is fine. Good shuttle bus service to the station which you can use to get to ''town'' and then wander back through bars/restaurants for the evening. Close to lake front and bridge to get great early morning views of the mountain. Convenience stores close by. Breakfast is very cafeteria style but more than adequate to set you up for the day out. Rooms are small so this is for people who will be out and about. Would be good for groups as you can have shared meals in the breakfast area at other times of the day."

Hakone Kowakien
10/10 Excellent
"Our stay at Hakone Kowakien was wonderful. Just to clarify we stay in the Hakone Kowakien Hotel. (Not the Ten-yu) I notice there were mix up of reviews when I was researching the hotel before our trip. The area around the hotel are breathtaking and the grounds beautiful. They are doing some work outside of the dining area while we were there so the windows are covered up and you don’t get a view while you are eating. We opted for breakfast and dinner during our stay. They had a good variety of food to choose from. I find I had a hard time trying everything because I get full long before that. It is a buffet so it does feel a bit chaotic and cafeteria like. But it worked well for us as a family. My son can eat whatever he likes. Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the mountains and trees. It was a nice change of scenery after spending 5 nights in the middle of Tokyo. The rooms are minimal but clean and in great condition. We enjoyed the Onsen on the roof. I find it was a great way to wake up in the morning and wished I had stay longer to enjoy it. We also booked a private bath. For ¥2500 I highly recommend it if you are shy. We also made use of the pass to Yunessun. We only went to the part where you wear a bathing suit. Over all we enjoyed it. The change room and showers were clean. The pools are a little hit and miss. It has definitely passed its prime. It is worth a go if the hotel gives you free passes to go there but I would not pay much to go in otherwise."
