The staff was incredible. They ensured we had a booking for our bus the next morning and dropped us off at the bus location after breakfast. Breakfast was quite extravagant with very beautiful views. The roof top pool wasn’t very fancy but had a great view and was everything you could need.

The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean and quiet. The location was close to food outlets and tour agents. Very little English spoken by desk staff and no help with tours or information on what to see or how to get around. No map or direction at all. - you are on your own there. The whole area in front and around the hotel is a construction site. The hotel would have been lovely 50 years ago.

This was a lovely hotel with helpful staff that have great English. My only (minor) complaint is that the complimentary breakfast is fairly mediocre, especially compared to other hotels you'll find in Vietnam. Overall though, an excellent stay.

Woke up to bed bugs crawling on my face/body. Customer service was very poor. Only given 1 room key that must be inserted in the room for AC/electricity to work. if you lose your card key you have to pay 200,000 don. There were bugs everywhere in the bathroom and desks, even in bed.

We liked the location of the hotel, but it needs a facelift. The staff was sometimes friendly and sometimes not. The food wasn’t good, and my husband saw a roach on the food table. No selection for vegetarians. We were upgraded to a one bedroom room with a great view, but it smelled of cigarette smoke and was super noisy. The pool is vinyl, and you can feel bubbles on the bottom where it’s pulling away. It also only comes up tp your waist, great if you have small children. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

A lot of cockroaches in the bathroom. And it's dark. Hot water will not come out soon. I was very disappointed with the impression that I often got three stars with this. I will never stay.

This hotel seems like it’s been abandoned and the staff that was there were very unfriendly. The only room that they have all the lights on is when you go have breakfast. Each floor they only have one small fluorescent light on keeping most of the floor dark (even the stairwell) which was creepy but also dangerous. Elevator was broken. “Rooftop bar” also seemed abandoned. Bed was horrible. There was hair in the bathroom from the last guests. Room needed a lot of renovation and repairs just seemed slapped together out of random materials. Would have much rather stayed in a clean hostel. The only plus about this is the central location. The reviews and photos are deceiving.

Staff really good The egg chef was v good The rooms are VERY in need of refurbishment In particular, the bathroom was very mouldy and there was a 6 cm hole in the bath which had been patched up Needless to say, the bath leaked all over the floor The fridge worked but there was visible dirt instide and it just needed a good clean There were no mattress protectors on the beds and the seat covers in the breakfast room seriously needed a wash

The complimentary breakfast each morning was amazing. The food was delicious and there are great views from the dining room. We had a sea view room and the views alone are worth staying here. The staff was friendly and worked with us to extend our stay an extra night in the same room at the same price as our previous night. Would go back.

Si vous n'avez pas le choix ...

Fuite d'eau dans la salle de bain, nous avons dans un premier temps appeler l'accueil pour dire que le mini bar était vide et que nous n'avions pas de wifi le réceptionniste à rigoler puis raccrocher... Nous sommes alors descendus pour signaler notre petit soucis on nous a alors porté des boissons chaudes à mettre dans un frigo eteint et impossible de le brancher. Petit déjeuner très très très moyen pour être gentil. J'ai oublié une paire de boucles d'oreilles sur la table de nuit, j'ai contacté l'hôtel quelques heures après mon départ on m'a dit que rien n'avait été trouvé.

Best of a poor selection

Cat ba as a whole is pretty run down so this hotel should be in seen in that context. It has all the amenities such as roof pool and it is worth upgrading to sea view. We saw a number of others on cat ba and they weren’t as good. Sea pearl is tired and dated and in need of renovation but still one of the better hotels in the bay.

Best pic of the worst available.

There wasn’t much choice for cat ba island so we had to pic the best of the worst so wasn’t expecting much and we weren’t disappointed in that regard. Nice view from the hotel and roof top pool and bar. Found a couple of cockroaches in my room. I put my note outside the room for it to be cleaned but nobody came to clean it. The hotel wasn’t busy so wasn’t as if the staff were busy. I didn’t expect much and it didn’t delivery much. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless u really have to.

Keep looking - this place is 'meh...'

This is my second time staying @ this hotel in 2 years. Unfortunately, it's not any better than the first time I was in Cat Ba. Unfortunately, there weren't many hotels available in the area, so I had to book the Sea Pearl again. When you walk into the hotel, the lobby seems quite nice. And the room itself is in pretty ok condition. But the bathrooms are dingy and gross. They are very poorly lit and have more roaches than the typical Vietnamese hotel. When I turned on the light, I counted 7 that scurried behind the hot water heater. I slept with the lights on that night.

Comfortable holiday hotel

Our stay at the Sea Pearl Hotel was pleasant overall.Unfortunately, while we were in Cat Ba there was a big night market close to the hotel which caused a lot of noise in the whole area. The hotel is not to blame for this, but it would be good if all hotels in the area would take action together to limit the noise, in particular the announcements over the PA system .
