“Qasr al-Farid” means “the lonely castle”, so called because it stands completely isolated from the others. But despite its fanciful name, Qasr al-Farid is only a tomb. It was carved out of a single rock sometime in the first century A.D., but its facade was never finished which makes the tomb an interesting study. The heavily chiselled surface of the lower third documents how these tombs were fashioned from the top down. Qasr al-Farid is just one of ninety-odd such monumental tombs carved here during the heyday of the Nabataeans.

Amazing trip to Madain Saleh, Saudi Arabia. There are many rocks carved like this, plus lots of other other-worldly rocks there. It's a little like a smaller version of Petra (dates from around the same time), without the crowds

We stayed in the old tents they are definitely not worth $1,100 per night and need a complete refresh. On the side the resort is wonderful, staff can’t do enough to help you and the valley is beautiful. Quality of food is high. Very disappointed the rock pool at the spa was not open.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. The rooms are spacious and everything is nice. Staff were well trained and very attentive. I recommend this place to all visits Al Ula. It is cheaper than Banyan but it offers good value.
