"I think it’s a great quaint motel right before you hit the busy zones of Tahoe and right outside Tahoe Valley campground. The property is family owned and very well maintained. The room is clean and nice and has all the basics you need. I really loved the lighted bathroom mirrors. Parking was plenty plus easy to park a truck. You do go to another hotel Apex also owned by them a couple bldgs down to check in but it was easy. Don’t come expecting a 4 star then be mad you don’t get it. Because it’s not and they don’t claim to be but what you do get is nice simple meet your needs and a little more very clean and safe motel for a great savings. I love carpet in my rooms which this had and I loved and all the space in the room for our bags or bikes even. You can tell they’ve really put ALOT of effort into making this nice. If you’re not into hard very firm spring beds and firm pillows well then, being some extra like I do. There are Great little places nearby to eat and walk to or bring your bikes. Or head to nearby trails for a nice hike to Truckee river. I really like the owners and staff they went above and beyond to make our stay welcome from beginning to end. If they did even once a year upgrade a room mattress at a time to a memory foam mattress they’d be my perfect secret spot to stay!! But if you love an old fashion spring firm one you’re set now :) thank you for hosting look forward to future visits!"

"This hotel is fantastic. I appreciate the complimentary parking available for guests. The establishment is tidy and well-kept. The staff is friendly and accommodating. When I requested a wine opener, they provided me with a brand-new cork at no cost. The pool is pleasantly warm; despite the outside temperature being 51 degrees, the water felt inviting. They also have a hot-tub. Their BBQ area is exceptional. I adore everything about this location. There is a trail to the left, and the city is just 1.8 miles away; turn right and continue straight. I truly enjoy this place; this marks my fourth visit. The bedroom is equipped with a bed, sofa, microwave, refrigerator, all necessary supplies, coffee, etc., and there are two TVs—one in the living room and another in the bedroom. Thank you, Ash Chand."

"Nothing unique. Motel room appeared not properly cleaned, drapes coming down, only 2 light fixtures (both on the same side of the bed). The bathroom was dirty, the mirror had toothpaste spots on it (I wiped off with a napkin I had), shower curtain had a hairclip from previous patron and there was a grocery bag under the sink with what looked like clothes and a post-it note stating "this is not my stuff" Kimberly. Why not throw away then? A blowdryer was once available because the holder was still on the wall but no dryer. Only minimal bathroom linens, no bath mat so floor got wet and I didn't have any extra towels to put down. No screen on bathroom window or exhaust fan, so was very steamy. No coffee maker or even plastic cups for water in bathroom. No ice as machine was broke and probably has been for some time. Room did have mini-frig and decent t.v. and bed linens were white and unstained, so hopefully clean."

Desolation Hotel Hope Valley

"Delightful and funky. Spa robes were ready at the foot of the bed, the fire warmed the room, there was no sink in the bathroom, and the kitchen outlet was directly over the quality Italian range. Desolation Hotel is isolated at the end of Hope Valley, which was an essential part of the Emmigrant Trail. The "hotel" is a collection of comfortable cabins hidden in the trees above the restaurant/lobby & outdoor bar & dining area. It is an ideal location for those who like hiking or trout fishing."
