Great Sand Dunes Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"Fantastic location and a fantastic view of the grand vista that makes up the sand dunes and the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in the back drop. As a added bonus for birders the property has set up multiple humming bird feeders in front of the rooms and the 3 species that we saw at the feeders provide entertaintment all day. The park it self is 2 miles down the road making it easy to get to the park early for hikes and back in the room to beat the heat of the day (we were ther in July). Staff are very frrienly, rooms are clean large and nice patio to shoot the breeze or watch the birds. As for breakfast.... well let's not spoil the vibe"

"This is a budget hotel. It's an aged property. But price is right, and it's only for one night!Lou at the front desk is an angel and she wants to be helpful. She even offered to give me a lift to dinner in town. If you are riding the train and you want to save a few bucks then stay here. There is a new Sinclair convenience store 100 yards away that has great breakfast burritos and good coffee."
