TV wasn't working, No dinning on site, No phone to call reception, towel look old and smell, although not visibly dirty. No instructions on what to do in emergency, no contact of local essential services in terms of emergency etc.

Fair stay at Biraj
No small wash towels, no iron-asked for 3 days, poor customer care from one lady in food delivery-with attitude, would ask for another towel x3 before getting it, same manu for breakfast daily-had katogo once, poor lighting at night on stairs-almost broke my ankle going downstairs at night, night stand lights fixtures with no bulbs in them, no phones working and if you to order had to move physically downstairs, Guards at the door sleeping and you would pass without them noticing-had to wake up one snoring, Otherwise inside clean, good customer care at front desk, girl in house keeping does Good job-munyankore girl,

Good hotel, but has seen better days
I stayed at this hotel last year and it was very good, so I returned. However, they are in need of repairs to several facilities like the door frames, bathroom facilities and walls. I was saddened to see the decay and lack of maintenance. The staff was very good especially the wait staff and reception clerks. However, when I ordered room service one night, they did not have change and were about to leave for the night. They expected me to trust that they would return the next day with my change. I said "No, I will just get change in the morning and pay you" because it was too late at night for me to go out and get exact change for them. (11:00 pm). I am glad I did that because the staff member was not there in the morning and I would have lost a lot of money trusting them to come back with my change. The hotel should keep adequate change on hand for customers who order room service.

The staff is lovely. We had some problems with the room not being prepared (no towels, soap, or toilet paper were installed, and the kitchen was completely empty of even a single fork) but the staff were quick to remedy any lack. For those dependent on wi-fi be aware that service is spotty at best. However, the pillows are a thing of beauty- we slept like babies. And the generous bathtubs are a respite for weary travellers. The manager and staff are quick to supply anything one might find lacking.

Great hotel especially for the price
Hotels in Uganda are typically run down, noisy, hot, and often dirty so we were pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel is, especially for the price. When we pulled up in the front we were concerned as it looks quite questionable, but once we entered the hotel we found ourselves in a different world. Very classy, clean, quiet, cool, and comfortable -- and that's saying a lot for a Kampala hotel! My only complaint is that they gave my husband and I only one bath towel which we had to share (no hand towel or wash rag). We will definitely be staying at this hotel on our future business trips to Kampala.

Very impressed with how it looked. Comfortable. Didn’t like the handheld shower head. I was not informed that power was going out in the morning in the middle of breakfast at 0815 even tho the staff knew about it. The power didn’t come back on until after 1600. Good thing I didn’t wait around. Staff is friendly and knew enough English. Grocery store and local market are extremely near. Very quiet at night but told not safe to be walking around after midnight. Plenty of boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) around. The staff can arrange for a car taxi for you or you can use Uber. Congestion is really bad in Kampala that it is easier to get around on a boda boda.

Et slidt hotel med mangel på service. Vi mødte/så tre ansatte på hotellet. En receptionist, en rengøringsdame og en der serverede morgenmad. Morgenmad kan først fåes efter 8:30. Ikke morgenmadsbuffet som hotels.com lovede. Vi så ingen andre gæster. Hotellet ligger lige midt i et stort travl marked.

Over all stay was pleasant. Only 3 channels on the T.V, but that's normal it seems for Hotels in Kampala. The staff was friendly for the most part until check-out when I asked for a receipt or something to prove that I had actually checked in. They seemed ignorant of what I was asking for and refused to give me anything. I needed it to help my fiancee get a visa to the United States. Very disappointing and upsetting. What should have ended on a higher note and possibly a better review ended on a bitter one instead. I haven't seen many positive reviews for this place. I wonder why??? Its a decent hotel and should be getting them but it seems that few people are leaving happy.

Mittelklassehotel in sehr zentraler Lage
Da mein Flug Verspätung hatte und der Transport von Entebbe nach Kampala ebenfalls länger dauerte als geplant, erreichte ich das Hotel erst nach dem letzten Zeitpunkt des Check-in (00:30h). Der Rezeptionsangestellte war von ausgesprochener Höflichkeit und Freundlichkeit und erledigte die Formalitäten anstandslos. Mir wurde das geräumige Zimmer gezeigt und die Nutzung der Klimaanlage und des Fernsehers erklärt. Fehlende Kleiderbügel wurden mir für den nächsten Tag zugesichert, welches auch eingehalten wurde. Die zentrale Lage gegenüber des größten Fruchtmarktes, Nakasero, in Kampala bedingt naturgemäß ein hohes Verkehraufkommen mit einem entsprechenden Lärmpegel. Es handelt sich also nicht um ein ruhig gelegenes Hotel. Das kostenlose WiFi funktionierte während meines gesamten Aufenthaltes von 11 Tagen problemfrei. Die Badezimmer-Amenities beschränkten sich auf ein Stück Seife, aber etwas Anderes hatte ich auch nicht erwartet und meine eigenen Toilettenartikel mitgebracht. Vom Hotel wurde ein großes Duschtuch gestellt. Das Frühstücks-Buffet war etwas eintönig, trotzdem konnte man jeden Tag satt werden und die täglich gereichten frischen lokale Früchte waren sehr gut und schmackhaft.

Beautiful interior, beautiful furnishings, shower was broken and AC did not work. Worst of all perhaps is that the lights were kept low even in the common areas likely to save cost, from my tea el experiences. Not good for business travel.

Property was great but service was very underwhelming. Had a very limited menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner so ended up eating out throughout my 3 night stay. That was most disappointing. Apparently kitchen requires notice but I only got this feedback upon checkout so you could test. Internet was pretty shaky as well. Neighborhood is great if you are in for business since it is quiet at night time. May not be as great a fit if you are visiting for anything else.

I stayed 2 nights during the weekends. Rooms were very clean & the staff were always there for you to assiste. I enjoyed staying the hotel. Only thing that I least like about the hotel is the location, in the middle of the busy market. Generally, it was good.

Excellent staff, large apartment style room!
We were welcomed so warmly by the staff here! Excellent service! We rented the apartment style room which had two separate bedrooms and two separate bathrooms, large living room, full kitchen, each room had a TV's. Extremely spacious! Staff help us arrange for a taxi when needed. Highly recommend!

Brief business trip - the hotel was fine. Nice breakfast, good service people, the room was clean. Location is in a busy market and maybe not ideal, but the hotel inside is absolutely fine.

Who would have thought?
Hotel was adequate, staff were nice, breakfast was good, room was alright. Kind of a surprise because this hotel is located on a busy market street and looks horrible from outside, but once inside, it looks like something quite fancy.

Not bad for the price and acceptable Hotel
Convenient and easy-access to anywhere in the center of city located in the downtown of Kampala, next to Nakasero Market. WiFi wasn't accessible at and around the 7th floor room where I stayed, eventhough I could loged in with the password Hotel's receptionist gave.

I would stay there again....
The Biraj is a beautiful Hotel. The Staff is both friendly and hard working.There are a few areas that they need to work on.... WiFi,Food service and credit card access. But overall I do recommend this Hotel.

Hotel is in a very seedy location which is not safe to walk in. Must climb 44 steps to get to the lobby. Small elevator maximum 2 persons. Most rooms only have bathtub with telephone shower and no shower curtains, no soap and no shampoo. After complaining we were given a suite which had a shower. Internet connection did not work most of the time. Breakfast poor, had to go elsewhere. Air conditioner did not work properly. Only 3 channels on TV with poor reception.

Creepy, dark hotel in the CBD
Creepy place. Virtually no staff, unhelpful when there. Dark and creepy throughout - they don't turn on their dim or gaudy lights virtually ever. I was locked in the hotel at night and couldn't find anyone - no one responded to my calls. Little to no hot water at any time of day. Not real showers. Quite noisy location. I'd avoid - there a plenty of hotels around Kampala at this price point with similar amenities. Pros: Decent rooftop but also weird - no service up there, unkept.

Don't stay here if you want any type of service.
I wanted to write this while everything was still fresh in my mind. We stayed here for two days. If you want a hotel that will have atleast decent service in the restaurant and the front desk, don't even consider this place. We were told the kitchen closed at 10. When we went down to the restaurant just after 9, Halima asked us point blank "What do you want?" Needless to say we were taken aback. When we told her we would like to eat, she proceeded to tell us three meals we could eat. I informed her I wanted to see the menu. She said "I'm telling you what's there so a menu won't help." All this while we were standing without being offered a seat. We decided to leave the hotel to eat. On returning at 11:00pm we found the hotel front door locked and the car park locked as well. It took us over an hour to get someone to open the car park so we could park the car. The following night we came back at 930pm it took us 40 minutes. We booked the two bedroom which were adjoining. We asked for two days to have toilet paper placed in both bathrooms instead of one. They never brought the toilet paper. We were told on arrival that there would be room service. We asked for breakfast room service and were told No, that we had to come downstairs for breakfast. When we asked to speak with the manager, the receptionist hung up on us and never answered when we repeatedly tried to call. We never did see a manager after we inquired for two days. I do not recommend staying here at all.

Aamupalaa ei ollut tarjolla minään päivänä luvattuna aikana. Huoneessa termiittipesue vaatekaapissa, mitä henkilökunta ei kommentoinut millään tavalla, vaikka toinen ovi oli jo syöty pois. Yövahti ulko-ovella nukkui kahtena yönä niin sikeästi, että hänen ohitseen pääsi kulkemaan vapaasti sisälle. Rappukäytävissä ei ollut mahdollisuutta laittaa valoja päälle, eli mikäli ei halunnut käyttää hissiä, niin piti olla oma taskulamppu mukana. Lämmintä vettä ei tullut suihkusta. Ikkunoissa huono äänieristys, vaikka todella uusi hotelli. wi-fi ei toiminut huoneissa eikä aamupalahuoneessa. Deluxe-huoneessa ei ollut palasaippuan lisäksi muita pesuaineita. Ei erillistä jalkapyyhettä. Satellitti-tv:ssä näkyi vain 5 kanavaa.

Great potential but rubbish.
Lovely building but a massive waste. Staff weren't interested. Booking the airport transfer was a nightmare, I arrived not knowing if I was getting picked up or not (airport transfers are more expensive but supposed to take away the stress of getting there, with this hotel you had the stress and the extra cost). Had no electricity one day, at all, kept asking staff when it would be back but they couldn't tell me. Kept saying the generator would be on soon but it wasn't, when I asked one staff member what would happen if the electric was still off when it got dark she shrugged. Summed them up well. Lamps in the room had the wrong type of plugs for the socket on the wall (bring your own converter??). It says toiletries provided but that is just a small bar of soap (supermarket nearby has plenty). No safe. No hand towel. Lots of little things a hotel of this cost should have. The room numbers didn't even correspond to the floors, I was in room 312 on the fifth floor! TV in the room only had two channels that weren't fuzzy, both showing football. WiFi was useless, couldn't even check emails in the room most of the time and not much better in the lobby. If somebody with some know-how were to take over this place could be good, but even the staff aren't bothered with it already. Avoid. Very noisy outside but you will get that with most central hotels. One good thing was the housekeeping lady, she was very pleasant and very good at her job.
