Kohea Kai Hotel Maui

10/10 Excellent

"We booked the garden view king-size bed room. The room was clean and had all the amenities someone would need in their room. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. They have Beach equipment for renting in the morning, but should be returned by end of that day. The location is amazing, with the beach just a couple feet from the property, and all the happening places just 10 mins away. Overall, we had an amazing time staying there. The only cons, that I would say, were that parking is a bit tough to park if we arrive late everyday since it is first-come-first-serve basis. We got parking for all the days, just that we had to park a bit inside, in a congested space since we got home late. Another thing was that the bathroom door was a sliding door and did not have a lock on it."

Grand Wailea Maui, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

"It’s just not the same…. Like so many things these days it just isn’t up to the standards it once was for luxury, quality and service. This was my fifth trip to the Grand Wailea since it originally opened. The grounds were still mostly beautiful although many tiki torches were nonfunctioning, handrails missing, cracked, missing tiles at the adult pool was particularly sad to see and areas within the grounds that just seemed unkept, especially around the old Asian restaurant, which is now shuttered/abandoned. Upon arrival, I immediately knew that something was a miss when the incredible waterfall that sets the tone for the grandeur that was always promised was inoperative. The staff says it has been broken for over a year and has not been fixed. This was the center piece of the tropical experience for me. It is this lack of maintenance that would keep me from going back to the Grand Wailea as it is no longer a five star resort, even after their $350 million partial resort renovation. Our ocean view room was large and comfortable, but the decor was as basic as a Holiday Inn. One picture, one decorative mirror was all the design afforded. You could tell they’ve cut way back on staff too. It is still a worthy of at least one holiday if your priority is to enjoy the extensive pools, spa, etc. If you’re truly looking for a five star experience, the Four Seasons is a better choice."

"Property showed onsite appeared bright and updated but our room was dark and in standard condition. Although it wasn’t anything like the pictures advertised, it still fit our needs and would stay here again. Full kitchen. Inside storage had a boogie board, fins, and a couple beach chairs available to use free of charge. Check in was quick. Finding our building was a bit difficult on the first night due to low lightning and the location, but each night got a little easier. Parking was easy and readily available near our unit. A bit dark with holes in the grassy area so be careful walking to your vehicle. Someone in the family fell and sustained an abrasion and some bruising and the genetal manager is aware of. Quiet area and felt very safe. Able to hear people in the unit above walking around. Grounds were clean. Pool was about a 5 minute walk. Beach across the street."
