Augill Castle is a very special place - we celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary there and it was perfect!. The ambience, the staff, all the quirky artifacts in the castle, it was like staying in someones home. I would highly recommend staying here, you will not be disappointed and we hope to return! Thank you Augill Castle it was magical!
We needed somewhere to stay after finishing some medical treatment and Augill Castle was perfect for us. The service was personal and thoughtful and the food was delicious. The weather was good too, which helped, but is probably less predictable!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
The property is decorated in a quirky manner - mainly antiques, but some modern pieces. It feels more like a relaxed home environment than a hotel. Breakfast and dinner was good quality, but dinner is not available on Mondays or Tuesdays.
Step inside Augill Castle and just let yourself enter an almost Alice in Wonderland world. Feel like a Tudor king having a toilet break on an old fashioned wooden loo. Spot the old fashioned record player in the bathroom. Have breakfast with perfectly mismatched crockery. Be encouraged to explore on your own rather than have a formal tour. Scare yourself to death by opening a door in your bedroom to find a single chair in a freezing turret. Staff were fun. We enjoyed sitting in the lounge for 6 hours doing a puzzle with a glass of wine. To top it off for us we got a spectacular Northern Lights display over the castle on our last night. Don’t expect a “5* resort” but definitely enjoy a 5* experience.
We had the most wonderful experience at Augill Castle. The room and property perfectly fit what I was looking for - a very castle-like room without too much modern but enough modern to be comfortable. The food was outstanding and staff friendly, helpful and accommodating.
I totally recommend Augill!
Augill Castle is beautiful, filled with lovely comfy rooms , lovely home made food. Very nice staff , the castle is full of history and quirky areas to explore.
This is a quirky hotel that ticks the boxes if you fancy something different, has a real castle feel, the staff here are tremendous, they will do anything for you without coming across as intrusive,we really enjoyed our night here and can’t wait to come back,my Parents have booked a 2 night stay here on my recommendation.
What a magical 2 night stay! Surpassed expectations. Room was A*, clean and spacious. The castle was elegant and homely. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Food was exceptional also. Would highly recommend and will certainly visit again!
Such a wonderful property with so much character. You really are staying in an old castle. The entrance hall and reception rooms all reflect some of the history of the place. The staff, food and service were all wonderful. Even a present from Santa for the boys. An excellent stop off on the A66 to break our journey and we’ll definitely come back!

Break away
We had a lovely time away beautiful place but a few little issues and not what we expected for 4 star.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and because of this we didn't let the little things spoil our stay
Beautifully and sympathetic period decor, couldn’t fault the food or any of the facilities. Very welcoming staff and excellent hygiene and self distancing during our stay. Without doubt we will visit again.
This is an amazing venue away from the hustle and bustle and set in beautiful countryside.
The rooms are superb and the little quirky aspects like to self serve bar and private cinema make it lots of fun.
A perfect night away with friendly staff & everything you would expect from staying in a castle. The evening meal that was served was excellent & good value for money. If your looking to stay somewhere different in a picturesque part of Cumbria then look no further.
Overall we loved staying at Augill Castle. Fabulous food, excellent location, great ambience. In fact, the only minor niggle in our accommodation (The Gatehouse), was there was no sink available downstairs, so whenever we wanted to fill the kettle, or wash the pots, we had to go upstairs to the bathroom. I know not all the rooms are the same, so perhaps only applies to the room we were in, and maybe I am being a bit lazy too.
The Castle has kwerkyness about it, which is delightful. The period furniture is not overstated and works well. Our room had a 4 poster bed, which went well with the rest of the furniture. Having been in many hotels world wide I would say that this one is up there in the top 3/4.
Did not live up to our expectations of staying in a castle. It would have been nice to have seen and spoken to the owners socially and perhaps some music might have created some atmosphere.
