With new safety guidelines in place, travel looks a little different at present. Here are a few things to know before you pack your bags for Lingga Island:

• Before booking anything, find out if any travel bans or restrictions apply — in both your origin and destination. Get up-to-date information by checking government websites.
• You must wear a face mask at the airport, including at security checkpoints. Be prepared to lower your mask for ID verification when asked by a TSA officer.
• Instead of handing a TSA employee your boarding pass, place it straight on the scanner yourself. Then, hold it up for inspection.
• You're allowed to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your carry-on bag. You'll need to remove it for X-ray scanning.
• Put any personal items (phone, wallet and keys for example) in your carry-on instead of a bin to reduce handling during screening.
• Separate any food you're carrying for X-ray scanning. Food items often trigger the alarm. Putting them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA officer to handle and inspect your belongings.
