"I had a great time at GY Boutique hotel. The check-in was easy, the room was updated, ready and immaculate, the mountain view was great, and the bed was comfortable. The bar and dining room provided good food. The access to wilderness was a real draw. I would return."
"The stay was okay because of the nice view, but overall, I’d rate it 3 stars. The road leading there is very rocky and unpleasant, especially if you have a low-clearance car. There were no instructions or details mentioning that the town is quite far or that you can’t get food anywhere except for their on-site restaurant. Finally, for $243 a night, standard coffee should be provided—especially in cold weather. Even basic motels provide that."
"A well-kept campground that was surprisingly modern, neat, and clean. Room was a bit warm due to no air conditioning but an open window kept it cool."
"This place is SO cool! Kim, the manager on duty when we were there, was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We stayed one night in the music room and one night in the train car. Our friend stayed in the bus and the wagon. The train car blew my mind! It was spacious, with a great shower/bath, and just felt so unique. The lodge itself is beautiful. Breakfast is good and the library is a great place to chill, have a beer or coffee, and read. If you pass through Te Anu, definitely stay here!"
"The Kamana Lakehouse is exceptional. We felt very well taken care of our whole stay. The front desk staff was extremely accomodating, holding our bags before check in and taking them to our room and booking a taxi for an excursion. The servers and bar staff we're great as well. The food was the best we had on our entire trip to NZ. The included breakfast in the morning is completely worth it!
It's easy to get to the wharf via Uber or the bus. You can also walk to the Sunshine Bay Track nearby for an easy hike. There is a restaurant and convenience store across the street as well.
There is construction going on nearby, I was worried this would be more disruptive but it wasn't too bad. It was active (and loud) during the day. It did affect the experience in the soaking tub, so if you can, book after 6pm when the construction is done for the day."
