The property is well located and good quality, but out-dated and in some areas underwhelming given the price Staff are very welcoming, attentive and do a good job Areas of concern: the ski-storage area is undersized and agricultural given the class of hotel, with basic cages and no heating room or obvious place for changing and fitting skis other than in the main entry which is crowded and wet; the spas and pool facility is great but not available even for teenage kids which is not well advertised and given they seem to allow any old riff-raff from the slopes in to the facility I don't understand why paying guests who can behave themselves albeit are under the age of 18 cannot join; the drying facilities in room are too small and co-located with the bin! Internet facility is hopeless and anyone using a work device that has any level of security may as well bring a typewriter with them; meals in signature restaurant are good, but the room could do with more atmosphere; the happy hour offering is good!

Hi Joseph, Thank you for your review and the feedback. Many of our rooms were renovated and refurbished last summer and the remainder, including the Ski Storage area, are scheduled for renovation this summer. We appreciate the feedback regarding the pools and the age limits, we are always looking at ways we can improve our venue and the experience for guests. We anticipate that the bins are removed from the cupboard upon check-in as they are just stored there between reservations. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Well taken care of, close to the ski slopes, cosy rooms, friendly staff, convenient food options, great breakfast delivered to the rooms. Luggage and ski storage, accommodating if you arrive early and plan to depart late by storing the luggage.

Breathtaker Hotel & Spa at Mt Buller was indeed breathtaking! We were a party of 4A2C and it was our first time at a ski resort. We spent 3D2N thru the beginning of the season. We had planned for the trip 6mths in advance to ensure a memorable trip for the young and old. And we are certainly glad we chose Breathtaker. Pre trip, we were slightly taken by their rates and how fast they were booked out. We asked plenty questions and Breathtaker’s folks were always prompt with their replies. Kaidi & Anne were patient and their service level assured us that we made the right choice booking our stay with them. We enquired about driving up the mountain ourselves, figuring out parking at the property to eventually booking their transfer service from The Sebel to take us safely up Mt Buller. Transfer service was great! Drivers were welcoming, helped with our luggages and settled the kids in the vehicle. Drive was smooth and we enjoyed the sights without worrying for our safety. During our stay, every staff we met greeted us with gusto. Thank you Jaime & team! Breathtaker is a cosy property without elevator/lift. We booked a 2-bedrm apt and it served us well. The attached kitchenette worked great for us - we were able to whip simple meals for times we stayed in. Facilities were great too - we love the kids playroom on level2. We loved the happy hour service at Loft Bar as well as the food served at the Signature Restaurant. So good! We’d love to be back!

Convenient, great location & can get noisy!
I have stayed at Breathtaker before and enjoyed both stays. The previous stay was prior to the recent renovations, which have tidied up the lobby & breakfast area for the better, however left the loft space feeling a lot less cosy and a bit sterile. Unfortunately this time, we experienced bad cooking odours and a fair degree of noise from a neighbouring apartment. The building doesn't have particularly great noise insulation, with scents seeming to waft via the shared vent system. Management did compensate us for the negative experience, which was reassuring that these concerns were taken on board. My previous visit seemed to be far less noisy in one of the smaller one storey appartments, where as he larger two storey apartment had serious noise and smell issues. Breathtaker is overall a great place to stay if you land a quiet room with quiet considerate neighbours. The spa is a pleasant place to restore and relax after a day out on he snow and staff seem to have improved since the previous visit, with terrific service and very polite attitude.

Hotel was selling itself as ski in/out. This was not totally correct. Whilst the walk was short you still had to walk 70m to the chair lift. The hotel is definitely on the snow but I would not class it as ski in/out based on my previous experience. (Having said that I have not booked any other ski in/out hotels on Hotel.com to know if this this is a normal classification for this style of accommodation). We stayed in a 6 bedroom room. 1 double bed and 4 bunks. The living room was tiny & did not have a view towards the snow or mountains. Kitchenette was unpractical to work in. These were the main disappointments. There are other rooms in the complex which I am sure would be better. The complex itself was very clean and professional. Breakfast included was lovely. The best croissants I have ever eaten. (supplied from the Mansfield bakery). The spa, sauna and lap pool in the complex were excellent. Would be better if they stayed open after 6:00pm. You have to try one of their desert pizzas, delicious.

The shower is very small and we can’t do late checkout so we have to checkout at 10.00am, because we don’t want to get the hotel management charge us and even you are staying with a kids at the age of 6, and you book a room for 2 adults, you have to pay charges for your kids 80$ per night

It was my daughters first time at the snow, and the whole trip was absolutely magical. The Breathtaker Hotel made our whole trip so enjoyable! The staff couldn't do enough to help us and went above and beyond from the moment we got there to when we left. The location couldn't have been more perfect, a short walk to the ski lifts, the ski school, and the village. Grimus ski hire was just next door and their service was also excellent. The only negative was that I wish there were healthier menu options, especially for the kids. Thank you!

Good location, nice hotel
The hotel is in a great spot, nice and central to the village especially with kids. They have everything you need as well if the weather is miserable then you can just stay in the hotel. The kids facilities needs a bit of a revamp.

Poor venue but Excellent customer service
The only toilet in the three bedroom apartment has a broken lock. No windows are openable and no keys provided, which is definitely a breach of fire safety. Called the reception and Valentina came deal with it very quickly. No lift, have to climb 5 floors to get to room, which is exhausting with young kid.

Very poor service and a ‘drying cupboard’!
When paying $3000 for 1 room over 2 nights; one expects a modicum if service. Unfortunately, the majority of the breathtaker staff couldn’t facilitate this and made it clear that actually performing customer service is an inconvenience to their modus operandi. When we offered to wait until the final sitting at the restaurant was completed to dine (and pre-order if necessary so as not to prevent the chefs from finishing on time), we were simply told they couldn’t ‘fit us in’ and that we should ‘try our luck’ next door or in down. A charming result when paying so much for a hotel experience. It would have been very easy to fit is in for dinner (not to mention the substantial missed revenue for the restaurant). I would never stay or recommend breathtaker again.

Comfy stay/convenient
We stayed at Breathtaker as we were after a comfortable and quiet stay on the mountain. The staff were absolutely lovely and helpful, the room was comfortable and clean and overall the hotel is a great choice if looking for a hassle free relaxing stay with friendly staff to assist. Unfortunately my bathroom had a faulty shower door, which was not repaired prior to our stay despite staff being aware of this which was a little annoying as the shower was difficult to access as time passed. The resort requires a 50-100 meter walk down steps and over a fairly slippery icy walk to the ski runs with a small uphill section-I found keeping my ski/ board equipment at Grimus helpful however this is at extra cost. The breakfast room has great views but overall the food was underwhelming and the space rather crowded as everyone is heading out at similar times(especially on blue bird days), so it felt a bit stressed and cramped. The spa was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it. The staff were professional and excellent at their treatments. Some of the treatment rooms are absolutely stunning while others are OK. It really depends on where you get put on the day. The upstairs area- the loft is very cosy and convenient when travelling with kids. You can relax and not worry about the noise factor etc as everyone seems to be having to care for some kids and the kids seem preoccupied and overall relaxed :) Good change areas if arriving early or post checkout with skiing.

Nice apartment close to everything.
We stayed at the two bedroom suite. Clever and practical set-up of the room. Very helpful and friendly staff. Close to snow gear rental store and the ski school. Buffet breakfast starts from 7:30 in the morning, with breathtaking view. Totally recommend it.

Lovely apartment close to tracks
We were looking for a nicer & roomier experience this trip - rather than a lodge for Bike Buller festival. The Breathtaker was one of few available. We were not disappointed. The 2 br apartment was well appointed, although the living area was on the smaller side for 3+ people. this was well overshadowed by the pool facilities, restaurant with complimentary breakfast (on the large balcony - note it is summer), and amazing customer service, with hands on management. Plenty of areas outside of the room to take time out. Bikes able to be stored in ground level storage areas. From the moment we arrived, until departure, we were welcomed and nothing was too much of a problem for staff. Great to allow U18’s in adult pool area from 4-6pm. Would highly recommend.

Rooms are small and cozy but nicely appointed
I liked our little room. It had a small kitchenette - with nice utensils (i.e. quality knives and cookware). The heat sources were good and there were TV's in both the living and bedroom areas. EXTREMELY expensive to stay during peak snow season. The hotel had good storage for the snowboards/skis downstairs and a drying cupboard in your room for your clothes. All very nice. Pool area you can use if you are a guest over 18. Breakfast included, was a decent spread - but I always felt like I was bothering the servers - just asking to be seated, let alone requesting a salt and pepper shaker on my table. If they had no one to serve, there would be no job?? I even asked for a good tea bag after I got done with a morning ski 5 minutes after they breakfast place 'closed' at 10:05- heavens, was I shot down. The hotel has it's own brand of tea for sale- but it is not part of your tea selection in the room - you get a common grocery store green tea that did not suite my taste for black tea. You can get the 'special' tea for breakfast - not sure how they make people aware of it otherwise. That said - I enjoyed out little cozy room and we had a nice stay.

Stay felt kind of mixed - 2 bedroom suite for designed for 6, very crowded with 2 adults and 3 children. The spiral stairs in our suite very poorly designed - heads frequently hit on metal corners, partly due to crowdedness of room and nowhere to move when everyone downstairs. Ladders on bunk beds not very secure. Not clear on website that pool is only for 18 plus. Luckily we had great weather for skiing and kids had no time to swim. Cleaners came into our room when out for early breakfast, which was a problem because we were also checking out that day at 10am. Kind of hard to shower and pack with two staff members cleaning?! However, overall ambience of hotel was nice. Convenient to beginners slope.

Accomodation has very nice facilities with the spa being welcome and staff friendly and helpful. We were a family of five in a sixshare 2 bed apartment which was very small but expected for the location. Only three seats for small dining table and a sofa for two to three in an apartment for up to six people, otherwise very good, breakfast was very good with the best pastries I have had in a hotel breakfast. Ski storage locker was also a very tight squeeze if we were all snow boarding our equipment wouldn't have fit. Locker and shower facilities for guests who have checked out are great.

Fabulous Boutique Hotel in the heart of Mt Buller.
We stayed in a large group at The Breathtaker to enjoy the off-season scenery and to experience the Mountain Bike racing across the Labour Day Weekend. We had quite the adventure. Amazing views. Perfect weather. Excellent service. Couldn't be happier.

Breathtaker ... another great holiday!
This is the 2nd time I am staying at the Breathtaker, once again, I am greeted with wonderful friendly staff, everyone was helpful from the moment we checked in and everywhere we go within the property. I like the fact that we get help when we need but most of the time, we are left alone to mind our own business. I initially chose this location just for the proximity to the slope and ski school.

Great room and facilities. Breakfast included was great. Staff very helpful and having porters for luggage is a plus. Loved the adult only spa. Only down side was it was nosey near the luggage lift and balcony didn't have a view as it was below a larger balcony. Ski lockers too small

Nice but not 5 star
Nice apartment for short stay and short skiing holiday. It really is only 3 stars by any standard. Not 5 stars as rated in the website. Food in Signature restaurant is great in the restaurant. Breakfast is very ordinary. Not really ski in ski out. Got a short distance to carry your ski to the lift. Overall, a 3 out of 5 for me.

Room was fantastic with complete kitchenette. Was given a unique room which had a door that goes out to an outdoor area just to ourselves. Bed was clean and very comfortable. The steam bath room was just 2 rooms away from ours. Breakfast buffet was simple and sufficient with great mountain view. We had the massage service at the in house spa but it was quite pricey, $135 per pax for 60min. There was no complimentary pickup service from the main pickup area of Mt Buller and you are not allowed to board the free shuttle service within Mt Buller if you are carrying luggage. There is no elevator in the hotel so you have to be ready to take the stairs.

What a fantastic stay. From the second we arrived (3 adults, 2 kids under 6) we immediately felt welcome at this wonderful hotel. After unloading our luggage for us, the staff guided us to our room showing all of the hotel facilities on the way. Our room was immaculately presented and actually larger than it appeared in the website photos. The furnishings were comfortable and well maintained and the room setup was practical and well designed for our family (there were spiral staircases which had complimentary gates if required). We ate three meals at the hotel, all of which were exceptional, very large and moderately priced considering the standard. The dining rooms were very family friendly as was the rest of the hotel. Ample sized ski lockers were provided on the bottom floor, large enough for two snowboards, boots and helmets, two pairs of skis, boots and helmets and two toboggans. The hotel location was fantastic being only about 100 metres from the slopes. There was also a village shuttle stop right next to it.
