The property would be 5 stars across the board BUT room furnishings were motel like. Though the bed was extraordinary, the lack of thought given to how a comfortable chair could be placed in the room was a big miss. At $300 a night I expect to be able to sit comfortably. Not on the bed all the time. However, the food services were amazing. The steaks were incomparable. I have only had steak this great one other time and it too was in a remote location in another state. The unique factor is grass-fed pastured beef ranched nearby. Salads and side dishes, yum. Breakfast yum. Figure out seating and you've got a $300 prr night room.

The AC in the room was noisy and cycled off and on all night. As a light sleeper, this made sleeping difficult. The shower was nice, but no soap made for a hollow experience. I think the downstairs bartender thought I was going to walk on my drinks; awkward. All in all I was ready to leave when the time came and will probably explore other options on my next trip. The price and the overall experience fell short of expectations for the priciest hotel in Nac. Disappointed.

It’s a lovely property that has been significantly updated, including a nice bar with screens, a very nice and large restaurant, and a lovely outdoor pool area (it was chilly and raining so no swimming and sunning for us). Our room was clean and updated, but incredibly small and it was somewhat difficult and inconvenient for the two of us to move around. Very small closet space, no sitting desk top, a tiny bathroom that was modern but missing on a few details. We were not aware, or missed, that the space was this small (the lowest cost room at $200 per night) and, in hindsight, an upgrade would have been a good idea. If you are coming as a single guest and will be spending little time in your room … I suppose it would be mostly fine. Otherwise, upgrade to a bit more space. Staff was very polite, efficient, and helpful. Parking is free and abundant outside and around the property. Walkable to the “downtown” area (a few blocks) as well as to the university campus (about a mile) which is in a very nice east Texas setting. SFU also contains an arboretum and azalea garden (they are blooming all around in Late March). Fredonia is an asset to Nac and if you are OK to spend a little more than the chain/budget hotel experience you’ll have a nice time here and be pleased overall with the experience (ref above re upgrade for space).

Wonderful hotel and love its charm and ambience. Two things negative: 1. Room was extremely cramped. 2. Looks like there’s some deferred maintenance that needs attention, such as elevators, hallways and rooms.

Stayed in the terrace rooms by the back pool (2 pools there) and an outdoor fireplace was lit after I came back from my son's wedding! Nice! Safe to walk my dog on grassy area outside of pool area.

Could Be a Destination in Itself
I seldom leave reviews, but it this case I am compelled to let all know that this place is a gem. I could not think pf any hotel in Nacogdoches being its rival. It is a clean, updated, and a Texas friendly example of 1950s motor travel. The restaurants and food service are "spot on" as well. It is too bad my work won't keep me in Nacogdoches longer so I can enjoy the pool and the service.

Such a wonderful property to stay. Cool vibe and excellent food options as well as walkable to Downtown. The only thing I wound recommend is turning off the music around the pool and cabana rooms during the night as it kept us up all night.

Hotel and rooms very nice. However the presence of an event center created problems. Wedding participants took all luggage carts to their rooms and didn't return them. We had to carry our luggage (with help from a hotel employee) to our room. We also were subjected to loud music for most of the evening. Parking was also very difficult. Avoid Sat. nights.

Third time is this hotel supposed to be the best in town and charging over $170 per night. And third stay were the tv remote isn’t working, the phone isn’t working, the food is mediocre to say the least, and no one seams to care. Very little service. I just do not understand this hotel. Disappointing.
