"Very dirty. Sheets didn’t seem clean. Bathroom was filthy as well. Not sure where the positive ratings came from, but they were mistaken. "

"Parking was well lit, close and ample. Our room was very clean, bright and comfortable. While the hotel proper held beautiful elements of it's almost 200 year history, the rooms themselves were basic Hampton Inn variety. It didn't bother us in the least. Breakfast was about what one would expect from a Hampton Inn. I found the choice for kielbasa sausage as a meat option, versus bacon and breakfast sausage, a little odd for breakfast, but it was good. I wish they'd had grits or biscuits and gravy as we were in the South. But overall it was pleasant - good lemon batter waffles and great coffee. We had breakfast on the side patio and a beautiful view of the lawn, trees and distant hills. We had the pleasure of meeting The Colonel, the local celebrity cat too! He's very handsome. The area holds so much rich history with Washington and Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute just down the street. All nestled within the cozy, warm Historic district and the beautiful The Georges. Well worth a visit, just don't expect more than what we experienced and you will be quite happy, we think. "

"My AC broke in the middle of the night. I reported it three different times the next morning and was assured each time that it would be fixed. After being out all day, I came back late and it was still broken, the room was around 80° and very humid. Completely unacceptable, especially after multiple follow-ups. I immediately called the front desk again around 11 PM. My son and I were exhausted and just wanted to go to bed. I was told someone would come right up, but after 30 minutes no one had arrived. I went down to the lobby myself, and only then was I told again that someone would come up. After another 15 minutes, someone finally showed up, unplugged the unit and plugged it back in, and it seemed to start working. Unfortunately, it stopped working again in the middle of the night. At that point, I didn’t even bother calling again. Very frustrating experience and a clear lack of follow through. "

"Large bugs in my room. Told by staff they were throughout the hotel. Poor TV reception. Slow internet. Items on breakfast bar were cold. I had a sausage that was still frozen."

"Excellent location to the Natural Bridge. Everything else is good, not great, with friendly staff. The breakfast was overpriced for the limited selection buffet style. They didn't even have basic toasts or bananas. Wouldn't recommend the breakfast there at all. "

"Our stay at this hotel was excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful, room and grounds were immaculate, parking was convenient, atmosphere was consistently positive. Breakfast was a 7 out of 10, and neither of us found the bed very comfortable, but we still consider it a great stay and will visit again. The good far outweighs the not-so-good."
