"I don’t normally like to stay in pubs (noise, revelry, smells etc) but previous reviews suggested The Bosun’s Chair and they were right. Most reviews highlight ‘friendly staff’ but here they really went out of their way to be accommodating. The young lady who checked me in, the barman who politely offered me a drink and the owner who looked after me at breakfast.
The property was old but I was very pleasantly surprised to find my (single) bedroom was well decorated and in great condition. Bed linen was cotton, the pillows were a perfect size and filled with down and the bed was comfortable. As the weather was warm so was the room, but the window opened and after the kitchen extraction unit had been turned off it was comparatively quiet with just the gentle hum of the electric fan. Some guests had to leave very early and could have been quieter but that’s hotels for you.
Breakfast was a revelation and definitely upmarket with Greek yoghurt, granola and fruit and a variety of hot, healthy, dishes including the traditional full English. Service was attentive and even the toast was high quality bread.
I had been slightly surprised by the price, having recently experienced larger hotels charging less but I don’t begrudge the owners a penny. The reality was way above expectation and everything had clearly been well thought through.
Highly recommended. Thank you."
