"We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Lovely property with excellent facilities, really clean and nicely kept. On the Saturday we had a lovely meal and great service in the Garden Bar. Breakfast both days was really good, a great selection and lovely and fresh. The reasons why I’ve only given it four are the unhelpful contact with staff before our stay - tried so many times to telephone the restaurant and reception but no one answers the phone. Eventually emailed, but that goes through a central email so it took three days to get a very curt response from the actual hotel to my enquiry. Dinner and service in the bar on the Sunday was disappointing after such a great experience on the Saturday, hardly any staff on (so not surprising that service was very slow, it wasn’t them being lazy) and the food wasn’t great, in fact the fish and chips was awful with a thick pappy layer of undercooked batter and very over cooked chips. We did raise this and were offered a free small glass of wine, but really when the dish was that bad and £22.50 I think they should have taken it off the bill entirely! Those two issues aside, a great hotel for a getaway."
