It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is worshipped here by the name Dwarkadhish, or 'King of Dwarka'. The main shrine of the 5-storied building, supported by 72 pillars, is known as Jagat Mandir or Nija Mandir, archaeological findings suggest it to be 2,200 - 2,000 years old. Temple was enlarged in the 15th- 16th century.
Rukmini Devi Temple is located 2 kms away from Dwarka City. This 2500 years old temple has a dome mandap together with a stepped sanctuary which is not much older than the 12th century. The outside of this temple is carved richly while has a panel of sculpted naratharas also called the human figures together with a panel of sculpted elephants which are placed at the base.
