Stay at a welcoming beach resort, relax on bays of pristine white sand, enjoy superb scuba diving and embark on scenic coastal walks on this breathtaking island.

With world-renowned scuba diving and snorkeling, lazy beaches and unspoiled tropical scenery, Malapascua Island is every bit the idyllic island retreat. Malapascua Island is one of the many islets that make up the Cebu Island province. It’s just 1.9-miles (3-kilometers) long and about 0.6-miles (1-kilometer) wide. All but flattened by a typhoon in 2013, much of the island’s resorts have since been rebuilt and the alluring charm is back to its best.

The island’s tourist hub and main entry point is the southerly barangay (village) of Logon. Here you will find a range of amenities such as bars, hotels, scooter rentals, restaurants and tour operators. Soak up the sun, find shade beneath a coconut tree and cool off in the crystal-clear water at Bounty Beach and Logon Beach. Spot crabs, fish and sea urchins, among other marine life, with the naked eye or rent snorkeling gear and explore further.

Arrange scuba-diving and snorkeling excursions with the tour operators and outrigger boats, which line the beaches’ shores. Marvel at the vivid colors of untouched coral gardens and schools of exotic fish. Popular dive spots include Gato Island, Kemod Shoal and Lapus Lapus Island. Don’t miss the chance to swim alongside thresher sharks and manta rays at Monad Shoal.

Set out on foot and discover the secluded bays and beaches in the island’s northern section. Escape the crowds at Bantigue Cove and Guimbitayan Beach. Walk to the hilltop Malapascua Lighthouse, which affords impressive coastal views.

After a busy day of activities, return to the comfort of a waterfront resort hotel. Pamper yourself with spa treatments and take a nap in a hammock on your private terrace. Dine on everything from fresh seafood to Italian fare and traditional Filipino dishes.

Reach Malapascua Island by catching a ferry from Maya, located at the northern tip of Cebu Island. January to April is peak season, when hotel and excursion prices can be higher. Typhoons are possible between May and December yet this period offers some of the best diving conditions.

9/10 Wonderful! (258 reviews)
Rooms were clean, the staff very supportive and nice, especially Eily (I hope to write the name correctly) always smiling. It's a pity the presence of boats right in front of the beach. Good services in place. Remarkable the point that no extra fee is added to the credit card. Bravo!!
