"For this type of hotel/category, there's a number of things that need improving:
1) Check-in: firstly, the hotel charges a €50-75 charge for an early check-in. This seems excessive and out in line with hotels in far more cosmopolitan cities. It's a small hotel, so room turnover etc should be more manageable.
Secondly, the check-in desk is too small and ill-positioned so that when you do everyone have suddenly checking in at once, it forms a line with people not really having anywhere to...

"The location is everything!!! You will be steps away from the Dom Tower and close to many shops, restaurants, and the canal. The Utretch central station is just a short walk away. The staff at The Hunsfeld were so kind and very helpful during the stay. I would highly recommend this hotel and plan to return!"

"I’m a hotel fanatic and The Grand Hotel Karel V didn’t disappoint! The breakfast was absolutely stunning, and well curated with local farmers/ vendors. We mostly connected with the Brassier staff and they were absolutely AMAZING. We really would like to point out Norman. He was outstanding and very knowledgeable. He made our evening and stay 10x better with his presence."

"Positive: very good location and very friendly and helpful staff.
Negative:
All consecutive rooms we were given, had broken A/C when temperatures outside were 35C / 94F. Finally a small fan was given.
So-called on-site parking is a few streets away, through super narrow entrance gate.
Hotel looks like it might have been posh a century ago, now it is just broken and sticky.
Not worth the money, a youth hostel would be cleaner and more attractive compared to this sad leftover of a hotel…

"The air conditioner was working well the first night but the second night it was not cooling the room. It was quite hot out that day, so coming back to a warmer room was less pleasant. We ended up using the oscillating fan to cool off a bit. The floor of the shower is quite slick. The beds are not very soft so a little hard to get a great night's sleep. "We stayed here during the June '26 heatwave. While there was no air-conditioning in the room, we were comfortable. The restaurant was cool and food (dinner and breakfast) over the two days was wonderful. No tea/coffee facilities in the room, but access to dispensers in the lobby."

"Wir hatten ein Dekuxe-Zimmer.
Das Zimmer war geräumig, ja, aber es hatte ansonsten nichts Luxuriöses.
Es lag im zweiten Stock mit Dachschräge, an deren Seite man nicht gut aus dem Bett kam. Zudem war das Zimmer sehr dunkel.
Gut: eine große Badewanne.
Die Durchvorrichtung war allerdinngs nicht in Korrespondenz zum (kleinen) Spritzschutz angebracht, d h. Duschen ohne Überschwemmung ist nicht möglich gewesen."
