"Uxlabil is up off the main road between San Pedro and San Juan. An "Eco Hotel"(whatever that means here) with nice views that overlook the bay in a rustic garden setting.
Pros:
- nice views from outside the rooms, hammocks as well
- clean room
- nice garden
- dock area, although not much info shared about it but you can see it
Cons:
- many many stairs from the main road/entrance to the reception, beware if you are older/have kids. Might be better to enter from the dock.
- Check-in: not much information shared about anything really. Had to wander around to find the path to San Juan, gardens, restaurant, dock etc.
- Check-out: mostly ruined the experience for me. I checked in and had no issues regarding this, but checking out the front desk insisted I pay an additional 125Q because the booking was made for "one person" instead of two.. 125Q is around 30% of the cost of the stay - never had this issue in the past , and I usually search and book for one to uncover hostel options. Felt like a rip off especially because nothing was said about this when checking in - at this cost I wouldn't have stayed here.
- Breakfast was included (which makes slightly more sense as to the additional person cost) but it was unimpressive, and did not have any coffee refills, no tortillas and no fruit/juice as mentioned on the menu. Likely understaffed because the poor (wonderful) ladies working there were all over.
Overall - I wouldve stayed elsewhere if I had known the true total cost."
"Very comfortable bed, cute decor, but the lights rarely worked or if they did they were very dim and flickered constantly, we had to use our headlamps in the bathroom for light. There was also quite big ant problem, primarily in the bathroom and shower, occasionally on the counter and the bed. The pool and cafe were great and the staff was wonderful. I booked through Expedia and received several messages saying they only accept cash payment, either in USD or QTZ, not fond of carrying that much extra cash as this was the last stop on our trip to Guatemala, but on arrival credit card was accepted which was a bit frustrating since repeated communication between myself and the property said only cash."
"Very nice hotel is in a convenient location in San Marcos close enough to the main road and the public dock. Solid restaurant and good customer service. Meals were good if not great. Scenic view of the lake. They did a nice job putting together transportation and activities for our visit. Just be aware that because it is in town you may hear some sounds like music and dogs close to bedtime but never after 10pm. I would stay again. "
"Incredible hotel - one of the best views ever, very stylish but according to local architecture and style and not very westernised (in a good way). The staff was super helpful, and nice! The music was great too - it was like a little oasis, we didn’t wanna leave the hotel. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed - the photos don’t do it justice !!!"
