"We were in town for graduation and lodging met our needs. We would stay here again. Only issue we had was the parking spaces are way too narrow. We had a small SUV rental and couldn’t imagine parking a bigger vehicle in between the parked spaces. And, I’m a smaller built person that had to squeeze out the small car door opening."

"Great downtown property tastefully designed, fresh and clean throughout. My room was compact, comfortable yet tight, so thankfully the downstairs lobby had so many great spots to sit and feel by yourself for a quick business zoom. The property is as walkable as you can get with groceries, dinner of many varieties, theater, a beach walk, and a barely housed busquer belting out rock n’ roll ballads with his bike-pulled speaker and seriously gifted guitar skills all are within minutes from your door."

"Really a wonderful surprise. Well appointed room, clean, high tech mirror. Above all very good location 5 minutes on foot to both beaches. Also a quiet location despite be blocks from 101. The staff almost apologized for the ‘small’ breakfast. Actually it any thing one would need including a great cappuccino maker. Ok no eggs, we got over it. Small pool but very clean. 120% recommended!"
The Upham Hotel

"The Upham is located close to various sites in urban Santa Barbara; it is bit further to the beach and harbor. The property consists of several buildings with a variety of room types for rent. There are also several, pleasant seating areas both outside and inside the main building where reception is. I stayed in a room in the building (Lincoln?) directly behind the main reception building and restaurant. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed. It did have a musty smell, so I requested a room fan (provided). I alerted staff the next day that my air conditioner wasn't working properly, so hopefully that was addressed. Fortunately, my windows could be opened, and it was cool enough to not be a problem. My room was on the ground floor directly behind the kitchen and seating area for the restaurant. As such, it was a bit smelly back there, and there was noise from the restaurant and kitchen from late afternoon until later in the evening. This wasn't too bad, but just be aware. It definitely was quiet enough during the night, as I did sleep well once the restaurant wound down operations for the night. There is a light continental breakfast provided, as well as wine in the evening. There is limited parking behind the property, so it's advisable to park and never use your car if possible. I can recommend this property as a reasonable place to stay in Santa Barbara."
