"When I went down to breakfast around 8:30 the coffee was gone and there was very little to choose from for food. I also could not find anyone to make more coffee.
The hotel was very nice and comfortable. My family was in town for a two day ski trip and this was a great place to rest our heads. "
"We checked in on Christmas Day 2025 and stayed 1 night. The hotel is in the heart of beautiful downtown Red Wing, MN. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays and was warm and inviting. We had brunch at the beautiful Scarlet Kitchen and Bar and the food and service could not have been better. The restaurant was busy, yet the vibe was elegantly relaxed. Our room was a beautiful union of history in modern times. The beautiful 4-post bed was so comfortable and I need to know where I can get a set of those bed sheets! So buttery soft—best night’s sleep! I will be back St. James Hotel. Highly recommend. Beautiful and quaint shops and dining on-site and within walking distance in Red Wing. Beautiful and historic."
"We have stayed here dozens of nights. Its our go-to in Red Wing. A lot of Americinns have really gone downhill over the oast decade, but these folks have really kept it a nice place to stay. The rooms are always clean and comfortable, the breakfast is great, the omelet maker is a favorite of ours and the pool area is has been really kept up and is nice."
"I’m from Lake City, and my entire family still lives there, so we were looking for a place to stay during the holidays where we could bring our dogs along and not have to board them. This has been the perfect fit for what we need.
We’ve stayed here twice now—once for Thanksgiving and once for Christmas—and both stays have been great. We love the self check-in, which lets us head straight to see family without worrying about timing our arrival. The rooms are super clean and comfortable, and with the dogs, it’s especially nice to be able to open the door and have grass just a few steps away.
The only downside we noticed was during our Thanksgiving stay, when there were guests in the room next to us and we could hear quite a bit of noise. That said, overall this is a great place at a great value, and we definitely plan to stay here again."
"Room was tidy, clean! A bit on the smaller size as far as rooms go, however, a huge room is not necessary for just an overnight rest. Bathroom & shower also very clean with adequate amenties & towels, water stayed hot in shower & water pressure was excellent. The TV was smaller than other motel rooms, but, again was sufficient for just the one night. It worked, lots of channels & picture was clear. Office manager was welcoming & promptly helped me access another room when the initial key fob for the initial 1st room continued to malfunction. He even opened the new room door & walked back to the office to get me a new key which he promptly brought to me so I didn't have to wait in the cold. Parking was nice to be directly in front of room. Presently very quiet with only the sound being that of sporadic traffic on the highway. Excellent place, would def stay again without hesitation.
