Pros: Good value. Spacious rooms. Relatively large beds. Quiet area. Easy, ample parking. Hotel connected to a convenience store. Good free breakfast. Walking distance to Amaterasu train attraction. Cons: A bit further away from Takachiho Gorge, about 5min drive. No view from hotel. Laundry was a bit expensive, had to buy detergent from the front desk separately from the laundry machine fee.

Sunday night saw a lack of dining establishments. However there is a Lawsons convenience store below the hotel. An older style hotel but clean and quiet and close to the gorge entrance with beautiful gardens surrounding. Staff were very nice and breakfast was great.

The most wonderful place in Japan!
We travelled to Takachiho all the way from London. This hotel was so clean and had a wonderful view to Takachiho hills. Hotel staff were so helpful. I love to visit Takachiho again and love to stay at Hotel grateful Takachiho.

Peaceful location on the edge of the town. No option for meals or drinks in the hotel, but there is a Family Mart shop 2 minutes walk away.

Nice accents specific to Takachiho - a giant fresco of Sarutahiko in the lobby, and local sweets and tea when checking in. Very kind English-speaking staff. The only complaint is the tea / coffee cups in the room are ridiculously small. Overall, a bit pricier than a business hotel but I would definitely stay there again.

Friendly and comfortable
Really welcoming and friendly staff. Nice touches like a cake on arrival and free breakfast in the morning. Easy walk from the bus station and near to the sights. I’d stay again!

Location, the convenient store is just downstairs and you can walk to everywhere if you like to walk. Staff are so generous and friendly. Breakfast is vary and nice. All facilities in room are nice and clean. Big parking lots.

Amazing helpful staff, awesome room with a view of the mountains yet walkable to downtown to see the sights like temples, shrines and gorge. Lovely hotel, highly recommended.

The staff were very helpful. Although it was a little walk from the bus station it was very easy to find. There is even a 'Family mart' under it.

Comfortable and pleasant stay with great staff
I stayed at Hotel Grateful Takachiho for 2 nights recently and had a wonderful experience all-round. I found the hotel staff to be very friendly and courteous, who were able to provide me and my boyfriend with sightseeing recommendations and advise us on how to get to places. The staff also went the extra mile at times - for example, sheltering us with umbrellas while we were walking to the hotel as it was raining! The rooms itself were excellent - well-decorated and comfortable, and so clean! The view was great and it was such a pleasant and relaxing stay. Thank you Hotel Grateful Takachiho - どうもありがとうございました！

Our hotel's features are that all rooms are western-style rooms, that you are not serving dinner, that you are using fresh vegetables for breakfast. The staff especially Kouiroku-san(?)was especially helpful especially when I needed a Japanese speaker to help resolve a pickle over my onward reservation in Nagasaki and Unzen and he went out of his way to help and I am very grateful for his assistance. The hotel is adequate in all its facilities and I would say value for a couple of nights stay if all you needed is a convenient stop and rest

Simple, frill-free hotel, good if only short stay
It is simple business hotel, only have 1 small restaurant and no facilities whatsoever. Below is a convenient store and they have no Spa nor Gym. Free parking but limited lots, many often reserved with cones. Room is small and the staffs are all non-English speaking. However, 1 or 2 were very helpful, even with language barrier, tried their best to help us on guide to see/eat around the area. It is a small town anyway, just 2D1N in this area is enough. 5-10mins to all the attractions in the area including the Gorge.

Good vacation place to be near nature.
Staff very helpful. Very comfortable room n spacious. Convenience store in the building. Near to attractions. Free breakfast is good. Eateries close too early. A supermarket few hundred meters away made up for that shortcoming.

Some free movies will be nice
Clean, spacious and comfortable pillows and beds. Nothing in the vicinity so it gets boring at night. All English movies are pay per view. The hotel rates are higher than average so it will be nice if some free movies are included. The convenience store at the hotel was our only form of entertainment at night. There are coin operated washing machines. We didn't get breakfast and settled with food from the convenience store which were cheap and delicious.

Beautiful view of the mountains from hotel
Hotel was cosy, bed is large for Japanese standard. The rain made the view of the mountains mystical. Very beautiful mountains and lush greenery all around the hotel.
