The Cactus Cove Inn and Suites

"Short review - clean room, good breakfast, interesting hotel with fun atmosphere, family friendly, NOT friendly for wheelchairs and walkers due to badly wrinkled carpet in halls - BIG TRIPPING HAZARD. This is a "unique" hotel. It has a very interesting atmosphere and I would consider very family friendly. I would give this hotel a 5 star, but it's still being renovated. It's large, has an indoor pool, mini golf, playground, fountain with koi, and attached restaurant. The room was clean and mostly renovated. The only thing I disliked was the entry doors into the rooms. They are retrofitted and it is noticeable; the entrance wall to the interior is made of three glass paned doors which have wood shutters on the inside of the room. The other thing that is important to know for the elderly or those using wheelchairs or walkers, the carpet in the halls is pretty bad - it is not stretched properly in several sections and is a tripping hazard. The carpet also didn't appear to be vacuumed often, and lots of dirt and debris were in corners and along the walls. I think this hotel will be absolutely amazing upon completion of the renovation. I stayed alone and felt safe which was the most important thing to me. I did not eat at the restaurant but have been told by friends that it is really good food. It has a decent free breakfast and the option for a cooked hot breakfast for a fee."

"Really enjoyed our two nights stay and would highly recommend. Great location (10, 15 minutes walk to river walk and Alamo) Free parking (great for city centre hotel) breakfast was good quality and a wide choice. Room was large, clean and had everything you needed. We would definitely stay here again."

"Upon checking into the hotel, we drove around to find our room. The room was on the second floor so we decided to just use the stairs. Upon exiting the stairwell there was a bag of trash lying on the floor and pizza boxes on top of the trash can. This was understandable as it was 4:00 pm. We entered our room and it had an odor. Noticed that the tv rotating base was mounted and broken so that the tv leaned backward. Then I grabbed the remote to the tv to see if the tv even worked. There was not a back on the remote. Tried to use the remote to turn on the tv to no avail. Finally used the power button on the tv itself to turn it on. After a few seconds, Family Feud popped up on the tv and the channel could not be changed. Called the front desk to inform them about the tv and the remote. They told me that they would try to come check it if they found time to. In the meantime, noticed that there was makeup on one of the pillows. Pulled back the sheets to inspect them and they did appear to be clean. We had a graduation to go to so we left to attend. After the graduation ceremony, we went to Walmart and purchased Lysol. Entered the room and sprayed everything to disinfect and help make the smell not so noticeable. Pulled sheets off and sprayed everything, including the bathroom. As I was spraying the bathroom, I noticed a few small insects around the tub and sprayed them directly. Returning later, the smell was better. Would never stay here again."

"Unique property right on the Riverwalk. It has a charming Spanish feel. Great location, tons of restaurants, nice outdoor pool area and the rooms were nice although a little on the small side."
