This has the potential to become one of Sri Lanka's top hotels. However, for the rates charged, the guest experience is quite underwhelming. Despite picking the highest priced room category, the geyser barely kept the shower or bathtub warm for a few mins. The toilet on the ground floor as well as the lift were routinely in less than ideal shape without regular cleaning.
My travel multiplug, which works everywhere, couldn't be used because the socket was new and too tight. Bizarrely, I was asked to pay 5000 LKR in cash as a deposit for a plug provided by the reception. When you pay 800 usd per night, asking for a 15 usd deposit for something so small leaves a guest with a poor aftertaste. It says that the hotel staff prioritize money over guests. I have never experienced anything of this sort anywhere in the world, least of all in Sri Lanka where hospitality is the buzzword.
It's a real pity because this is a fabulous property, and the rooms and views are wonderful. But it is clear that the staff and management have other priorities, not guests.
