My partner and I decided to stay at Leidse Square because we had such a great experience at the Leonardo Hotel Rotterdam Savoy previously and thought this would be a win. It was a lovely hotel, very cutely decorated with dog, cat and bird photos on the walls, stylish furnishing and an adorable blue bear cushion in the room.
I just feel like it simply lacks comfort in a few areas.
1. Toilet paper - is very cheap and not nice to use.
2. Bed - it is two soft mattresses made of faux leather with just a topper, not a proper fitted sheet on top. After 3 nights we both felt achy due to this not being a very supportive bed.
3. Housekeeping - you have to opt in to cleaning via a QR code in the room. I tried to do this on the first day, but it said it could not find my reservation. I just could not be bothered with it and of course suffered the consequences as a result. The hotel industry on a whole since Covid seem to think its acceptable to ask its guests to "opt-in" to housekeeping when it should be a standard. To me it comes across as a cost saving measure by the hotel and an inconvenience to guests.
Positives - nice big windows with a view of the canal. There was a small fridge and a nice coffee machine in the room.
The location is wonderful, close to lots of shops, restaurants, museum district (just a 10 minute walk away) and most importantly a tram line that makes it easy to get to Amsterdam Centraal in about 20 minutes.
