  • Home of Freeman Walker, outstanding citizen of early Georgia. Born in Virginia in 1780, he came to Richmond County in his youth and studied law. Freeman Walker, in 1826, deeded 70 acres of land to the United States Government to be used as an arsenal-the site now of the Junior College of Augusta. He reserved one acre as a family burial ground, known as the Walker Cemetery. He was the father of Maj. Gen. W. H. T. Walker, CSA. Admitted to the bar in 1802, he followed a life of public service; City Attorney for three years and Mayor of Augusta 1817-19, being the first to hold the city´s chief executive office under the name of Mayor, and Brigade Inspector of Gen. Valentine Walker´s brigade in 1813. He represented Richmond County in both branches of the State Legislature and represented Georgia in the U. S. Senate. His speech on the Missouri Compromise attracted nation-wide attention. He died in 1827 and is buried in the Walker Cemetery.

This hotel is very affordable, clean and the staff is very attentive and eager to make sure you do not have any problems during your stay. They have hired new staff and the rooms are being reconstructed.

The new owner is trying to keep up with the demands of an older property. The price I think is quite high for what you get the area isn’t the best they were homeless right in the parking lot. The lobby smelled like cigarette smoke awful the room was decent. The bathtub had cigarette burns on it. The bed was comfortable a bit hard but OK. The front door had a huge gap. It need weatherstrip and you don’t get breakfast for a $100 US.

Nice Stay

I came in town for a concert and needed one night. The location is very convenient. A Starbucks right in front and it was 10 minutes from my venue. There’s ALOT of restaurants in the area. The hotel is dated but everything was very clean. The front desk staff were very nice and accommodating. I had no issues at all.

The pool was closed no water. The continual breakfast was just a muffin and coffee. The web showed a clean pool in good condition. The web showed a good breakfast eggs toast bagels waffles. This would be a deal breaker if we had known. Will not stay again.

What I liked was the rate and the convenience of the location for the event I was attending. What I did not like was the old outdated tub and shower and the dirty looking carpet that needs to be replaced with new flooring. The room didn't reflect the pictures on the Internet.

Great location, convenient, friendly staff. Anyone above 5'8" won't be able to shower comfortably. There were stains on the sheets, dark dime sized, looked like blood. Sheets were "clean" so the stain was old, but these should have been thrown away. Overall, comfortable stay, but the stains, cobweb, and shower size were just unfortunate. Thumbs up to the staff though, super friendly.

So bad it was funny

We had to request a room change, due to uncleanliness. The front desk staff was rude. There is a $20 charge for a pet. The second room had wet carpet and a TV that did not work. The property was a mess. I would not stay here again. It will be a comical memory, but truly the hotel needs major renovations. The beds we’re comfortable, which was a saving Grace.

Ok stay

Very clean and spacious room. Had to wait about 10 minutes to get checked in as there was noone at the front desk when i arrived. Friendly and helpful service once she arrived. Television situation is awful. The reception is very poor. TV quality was awful on every channel, most channels being unwatchable. Not a big issue for a quick stay. However, thats part of service. That part was piss poor at best.

Let’s see when I initially checked in my room keys didn’t work and I was switched to another room. I had been on the road from South Florida all day long so I put my cat into the room and went straight over to my son’s house for dinner. When I got back around 10:30 is when I really looked around the room. I noticed the wallpaper coming off of the wall. I turned on the TV and there is a line going through it. It needs to be replaced. I went into the bathroom and there are multiple cigarette burns on the tub. I checked the bed for bedbugs and it was clear so as I was tired and it was late, I went to sleep. When I woke up this morning, there were two dead roaches on the floor that my cat had killed and left as a present for me. I walked outside to go down to the front to have breakfast as I specifically searched for breakfast included as one of my requirements as well as pet friendly. The breakfast consisted of a cup of coffee or a juice, and a little muffin. That is not breakfast so that is false advertising. I was really in for a shocker when I walked out the door in the daylight to the multitude of cigarette butts outside of my door that maintenance obviously doesn’t feel the need to clean up. As well as a Q-tip, a corona beer, bottle, cap, a candy, wrapper, and the trashcan overflowing Outside of my door by the stairs that’s probably where all the roaches are coming from. Highly disappointed in Days Inn and Wyndham in particular.

Clean, simple, affordable, accessible. No issues or complaints. Quality matress and pillows. Great TV for the ball games. Nice fridge for extended stays. Good value. Other hotels in the immediate area are upscale options at 2 or 3 times the rate. I have no problem staying here again when all I need is a nice bed, bath, and decent TV.
