Unfortunately, hospitality is not their strong suit however the grounds were enchanting. Both reception and dining staff were stiff and cold. Stayed two floors down from the main level and moldy smell detracted from the lovely room.
We first heard of Ballynahinch from a video on old Irish castles, so it was nice to see it with our own eyes.
Despite staying for only one night in a Luxury double room with a river view, we truly enjoyed our time there. The room was really spacious, with the huge bathroom being preceded by a walk-in closet and also having both a walk-in shower and a bathtub. Be it night or day, the view from the room and outdoor patio was mesmerising. Being our 5th anniversary, an additional surprise was a greeting card marking the occasion left in our room.
Having arrived really late, we only had time for dinner that evening and it was a great experience. Both the drinks and food were interesting and delicious.
For breakfast we had a table with a nice river view and the food options were plentiful.
Before leaving, we also had a lovely walk around the property, which is truly amazing. We would definitely come back for another serene and relaxing stay in the future.
P.S. If you have the time, the Sky Road starting in Clifden offers amazing views and is not to be missed.
We’ll definitely come back & spend even more time at Ballynahinch Castle. Beautiful setting, charming place. Only thing we’ll change is stay longer & select a larger room.
We loved everything about this hotel! The rooms were clean, beds were extremely comfortable, food was great but most importantly, the staff were amazing. Specifically Martin!! He was always everywhere making sure everyone was comfortable, had what they needed and were happy. He had such a passion for his job that it translated to pure excellence in his job!! Well done Ballynahinch for employing such a remarkable staff member. Loved our two night stay here and would definitely return if in the area. Highly recommend it!
Very quiet and great place to relax. Liked
Staff less than accomodating on requests that were not out of the ordinary at other high end hotels. Disliked
beautiful place, gorgeous surroundings, but you really have to want to be there, away from it all. Room was very nice, bathroom was great, just disappointed it did not have a handheld shower. Food was a disappointment. First evening there, decided to eat in the bar, and ordered the vegetarian dish, nocchi, for €20, and I got five nochjis on the plate. I complained to the waiter, so they sent out three more , for a total of eight. It was barely enough fir a starter! To their credit they did not charge for the plate. The next night, we were going to eat in the dining room. Dinner was fixed price, €70 for three courses, so we were expecting a really special dinner. Imagine our surprise when we saw that one of the choices for the entree, or main as they say there, was the same dish of nocchis that was offered in the bar the night before. That was enough to make us leave and return to the bar, where I had a very satisfactory duck dish for €22. Just a warning about the food.
The room was absolutely lovely. Fit and bathroom fixtures of the highest quality and the view of the river fantastic. I would definitely return. Great value!
While we thought we had booked a unique top flight accommodation, our expectations were far surpassed in everyway. The grounds were immaculate, the service superb, the rooms had updated electric outlets for UK and US, and they even have a Tesla charging station. The river view from the room was fantastic. The restaurant food was on par with any 5 star (US)/2star(Michelin) restaurant in which we have had the pleasure of dining. The wine list was excellent especially for the Connemara. They have numerous activities that we simply did not have time to enjoy. We now understand why many people were in awe when we told them we were heading to Ballynahinch. This is truly a special place and their efforts to maintain the property have paid off. It is definitely worth going to this little piece of heaven. And the Spring flowers were not all even in bloom yet. We wish we could return.
Wonderful wedding experience: lovely walks and gardens, the dining and bedroom views are beautiful, the staff are extremely friendly, accomodating and helpful!
It's a wonderfully location to get away from everything.
Fantastic will definately return couldn’t fault any aspect of the hotel or the grounds and food yum yum

I wasn’t overly impressed with our visit to Ballynahinch Castle Hotel. The location was pretty and it was unfortunate, due to the weather, we didn’t get to enjoy the grounds which did look lovely.
I had previously stayed at Parknasilla and much preferred that resort. To be fair, I think that was a five star property.
The TV in the room was too small to view adequately while in bed and the Wi-Fi didn’t work at all during our two night stay. We ate at the pub one evening and the hostess took our drink order and never returned with them or set up the table with napkins and cutlery. The waitress who finally did attend to us was the highlight of our visit. I wish I got her name.
Overall, it’s not a place I would return to. Again, it’s a pretty property, but not really the caliber of service I look for when on holiday and looking to splurge.
What a beautiful treasure! Charming and elegant, the people, room and property! Many activities are available from relaxing in the generously luxurious rooms to active walks around the well groomed grounds.
We loved our stay at the Ballynahinch Castle! From the moment we walked in we were greeted nicely and welcomed. Our room was very cute and had a lovely river view, they congratulated us for our honeymoon. The pub was cute and great to have a drink by the fire. The grounds are so pretty to explore. Breakfast the next morning was the best I've ever had!
