On arrival we were shown to our rooms via a narrow corridor, that had supplies stored. This was the only exit so would definitely not meet current fire regulations. The room itself, described as superior, left a lot to be desired. The bed was low, damaged light fittings, a badly stained rustic shelf in the bathroom surrounded by a rusty metal grill. The shower cubicle was small and poorly maintained, with dirt in the surround and along the floor to wall joints. We were advised, once we had got into the room that there was a leak from the shower which dripped directly onto a table in the restaurant below!! So told we could not shower during restaurant opening. Had we been told this on arrival, we would not have checked in. Having spent the morning travelling and the afternoon in a funeral directors, we needed to rest. However this room was not as described and we never unpacked, we left after explaining to the staff of the above. Whilst they apologised, there was no offer of a refund. Therefore i cannot recommend this venue for an overnight stay.

Totally overrated

Not at all what I was led to believe. The room I booked was small and noisy. The bathroom was clean, but a weird smell. I walked past the kitchen to go to my room and decided to eat out.
Not very hygienic.

Very helpful staff

The member of staff who booked me in was great and was super helpful. As a place to stay, well i can see they work hard to keep on top of things and have tried hard to make the hotel welcoming, but the position, the busy road outside, which i now see noted by others ,.....well it wasnt what id hoped for. Its certainly not in any way terrible and i wouldnt want to put others off as may suit others, i suspect im more a travelodge/ premier inn kind of person so maybe not a match for my needs

Last Minute Night Away

The food in the restaurant was absolutely outstanding such a lovely venue and friendly staff, the rooms were beautifully presented however being such an old building it wasn’t noise proof so we could every movement during the night with squeaky floorboards and doors being banged, would stay again though.

My stay started well. My room was clean, there was a small double bed which is great in a single room and was comfortable, the bathroom was lovely, the only let down was that the only storage was a single, shallower w drawer and n the dressing table and a hook by the door with a single hanger. The room cannot accommodate a wardrobe, but a small 3 drawer bedside chest could go beside the dressing table, I was there for 3 nights “living out of the hold-all”. I had dinner in the restaurant on Friday & Saturday night and the food and service were great. I was told on Saturday night that food service ended at 6pm on Sundays but the bar is open. On Sunday I had dinner, I got back just after 7:30pm, hoping for a G&T and a relax, only to find the place in darkness and closed. This was probably due to the football final on Sunday BUT they could have said something the night before when I asked! On Monday about 7:45am, I went downstage re and a smoke alarm was going off. I looked for staff but there was nobody. I rang the number but there was no answer as the inn was closed. I left a message & called 999, I also let other guests know. There was no emergency number & no staff around, appalling. I emailed about this & I’ve not had a response. Won’t be staying again and I do not recommend

Pub/Hotel itself was fine and the food at dinner was excellent and very efficiently served. However, the hotel is on a very busy main road between Shepton Mallet and Bath - and the traffic noise continued throughout the night with cars going past at high speed - and almost impossible to sleep. So great place and staff, but a terrible location.

This place could be good but isn’t.

This place could be so good but it’s let down by lack lustre management. The room was ok. A little noisy from the road. I stayed 2 night and the room wasn’t serviced on the second day. The so called breakfast is a bag of sugary ultra processed rubbish which on the second day didn’t even include a drink. The restaurant food is good but the service is poor. I really don’t know why they can’t offer a cooked breakfast option but never mind I won’t be staying there again.

Great hotel!

Lovely room, very clean and excellent value for money. Food service in the restaurant was very slow even though it wasn't busy. Food was mediocre. However, the two staff members I dealt with were excellent, both very friendly, helpful and attentive.
