"The river rooms are best as there is alot of early morning traffic in the roadside rooms. Other than that the hotel and staff were great."

"2rd stay at this hotel. Refused upgrade said not available. Had to argue for a 1 1/2 hour late checkout we did get a one hour late( why not give the extra 1/2 hour we asked for. No free parking mentioned. We never ate at this hotel too expensive. The bar is small and difficult to find a seat except spillover in hall. Bar staff were very nice but to busy to talk and drinks were crazy expensive. The bathroom sink only produced scalding hot water or cold.😡 For a five star we expected better service"

"What a great place to stay. We highly recommend it! Breakfast was excellent. Christina, our breakfast waitress was outstanding. Lots of breakfast choices. The breakfast room was very nice and the table in the window bay was special. Our room was spacious, and the kitchen amenities were complete. There was a small table where we could sit looking on the back garden. The bathroom was also spacious and well done. The decor in the condition of everything was amazing given the age of the building. Someone has worked really hard to maintain it so well. The lobby area had good seating and a variety. And it was neat that they had a bar where you could get a beer or a drink sitting right there. The location of Hedley house worked so well for us. Within an easy walking distance of a grocery, The Shambles, the York Minster, the national Railroad Museum, and a variety of other things to do. We look forward to returning here and staying at Hedley House again!"

"Positives - Good location for York; great showers and comfortable bed. Negatives - only breakfast option is continental breakfast served in room, though room facilities to do this minimal. No communal space for a drink etc other than a small unwelcoming area between the front door and the reception hatch, which offered a very small range of self serve drinks. More a place to sleep than a place to stay."
