Trinity Beach

Unwind on this tranquil stretch of golden beach, relax under the shade of swaying palm trees and explore Tropical North Queensland at your leisure.

Trinity Beach is a favourite getaway for locals and visitors. This peaceful area north of Cairns has a beach nestled between two headlands. Palm trees line the shore and cafés are dotted along the main road. Relax by the water and enjoy the beautiful natural environment.

The two headlands on either end of the beach are great spots for fishing, walking and taking in the views of the pristine landscape. The esplanade along the beach is lined with trees, giving the beach an intimate and secluded feel. Stroll along the boardwalk, through the gardens by the waterfront or relax with a picnic.

Let the kids amuse themselves on the children’s playground. Play a game of tennis or lawn bowls or enjoy a game of golf at one of two nearby golf courses. Adventure seekers can ride in a hot air balloon over the mountains, take a horse ride, bungee jump, skydive or skim through the trees on flying fox zip lines.

Enjoy a day of watersports where you can swim, sail, kayak, parasail or water scooter. Join a scuba diving tour to the outer reef or charter a fishing boat.

After a day of excitement, relax in a day spa and then dine at one of the restaurants by the water.

Accommodation at Trinity Beach ranges from resort-style self-contained units to affordable family holiday homes. Trinity Beach is clean and has lifeguards on duty and a stinger-proof enclosure. This makes it a safer spot to swim during the jellyfish season, which is between November and June. Amenities at the beach include showers and toilets and there is free parking along the main road.

Trinity Beach is a 20-minute drive from Cairns city centre and 15 minutes from Cairns International Airport. Catch the local public bus, which runs services between Trinity Beach, Cairns and Palm Cove, or choose to travel with a commercial tour company for a more direct route.

Yorkeys Knob
This is where I grew up but I was back recently for a family wedding- it has grown beyond recognition. When I was a child it was the end of the train line with no stop lights, one lane in and out of town. Now it's a massive tourist hub. This picture is taken from the Skyrail, an absolute must do if you are there. It goes up to Kuranda, an artsy town in the rainforest. You can also get there by the train, which is great to - or go up one way down the other. This is a view out over Trinity Bay so called because Captain Cook sailed past on Trinity Sunday. Cairns is over the hill in the distance.
