"Despite the hotel’s beautiful location, my stay was extremely disappointing. I was devastated to be given possibly the worst room in the hotel. A ‘superior double’ on level 2 (number 212). It faces the side street, so close to the pavement that I could hear every passer by throughout the night. At 5.45am you have the noise from the street cleaners, local shops, deliveries etc making it impossible to sleep! On top of that, the live entertainment from the bar was so loud in my room until late that I had to put on noise cancelling headphones to get some peace.
One curtain could not be fully closed because there was no rail?! This felt both cheap and careless - allowing street lights to shine into the room all night. The bathroom offered no better privacy or comfort, so I ended up showering with the lights off. The wardrobe randomly had no handles?! so I really struggled to open it…
Dinner was ok, I particularly enjoyed the beautiful view of the lake and they have a nice selection of wines.
After reading previous reviews I was disappointed to find the reception staff unfriendly when I was leaving, which only reinforced the poor impression left by the stay. Although maybe if I had had better sleep I wouldn’t have minded so much.
It is such a shame, because I was genuinely excited about this stay and although the setting is lovely, after this experience and the worst nights sleep I’ve had in a long time, I would not return."
