Every now and then I find a gem off the beaten path. Cantwell Cabins was fantastic. My family was greeted with a room so fresh that the painters tape still lined the door frame. Breakfast was superb with fruits and something homemade, like quiche, along with the standard breakfast cereals and yogurts. There was internet access and no TV (for us that's a strong positive). Sheets and blankets were clean. Staff was very helpful. Everything was great.
Staff was helpful. Hotels.com directions to hotel were wrong. Google search for cantwell cabins got us on to the correct location. Breakfast was nice. A good combination of fresh fruit and basic breakfast options.
We stayed in the cabin and loved it. The bathrooms are shared in the main building, but the cabin had 4 beds and was well maintained. Great experience.
The room was quite adequate. This used to be a hotel, but apparently lost its liquor license after a fire destroyed some of their cabins. What remains is in good shape, but the old bar area (now unused) is run down. Very handy to Denali. Continental breakfast was ok, esp since no other food nearby.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The location was good but the property itself is very old and not very well maintained
It was clean and comfortable. Great breakfast spread. The only thing was noise in the middle of the night. And the bathroom light fridge and microwave. Went out during the night. Think the breaker tripped.
Property was not yet open. rooms we were shown would not have been acceptable in a homeless shelter. Restaurant & bar was not open though was advertised.. Entire place was a dump & we refused to stay there & demanded a refund.
Upon arrival, the property felt more like an old hostel than the hotel we expected. It's located on a sharp curve next to the railroad in what appears to be a converted saloon. The building was cluttered and didn't feel particularly welcoming, and as a single mom traveling with my son, I didn't feel comfortable staying there.
Check-in was confusing because no one was at the front desk, and I had to call Expedia to reach someone on site. The staff member was friendly and showed us to our room, but the online listing was misleading. I booked a deluxe cabin with a double bed, expecting a private cabin, but instead we were given a very small room inside the main building with no window, a connecting door to the neighboring room, and paper-thin walls. The layout also raised some fire safety concerns.
The bed was comfortable, but the noise made it difficult to sleep. The guests next door were loud most of the evening, there were no apparent quiet hours, and every time they opened their door it shook our shared connecting door, startling both me and my son. Around 11 p.m., an extremely loud old coffee maker started running, which was the final straw. We chose to check out after one night instead of staying for our second.
This place was not what I was expecting at all.
When i got there, the guy running it took me in through the back. Just about all the lights were off. He was turning them on when we walked through the whole building. He told me it was because electricity is expensive and they are trying to save money.
The room was like attached to a shut down/run down bar and restaurant.
The feeling of the place was like, "i hope this isnt a serial killer's home and I'm being lured in".
There is supposed to be a continental breakfast but nothing had been prepared before I left. He told me he was dealing with family issues and had over slept.
Just a very strange motel experience and i would not stay here again.
