I stayed at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte from February 13–15 to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and unfortunately the experience fell far short of expectations for a property in this category.
The primary issue throughout the stay was the valet operation. Guests were instructed to request vehicles via text with a quoted 10-minute turnaround. On multiple occasions, the actual wait time exceeded 25 minutes. As a result, we missed two confirmed dinner reservations off property due to late arrival. The valet area was consistently congested, with vehicles wrapped around the building and traffic blocked. It appeared severely understaffed and unstructured.
Compounding this, we experienced brown water coming from the faucets in our room for approximately two hours. While maintenance issues can occur, lack of access to clean water at a luxury hotel is concerning.
Checkout was equally disorganized. We waited roughly 20 minutes for a luggage cart, then were told to expect an additional 10-minute delay due to valet staff being preoccupied. Approximately 15 guests were waiting to retrieve vehicles at that time, many visibly frustrated.
For a high-end property during a major holiday weekend, basic operational planning and staffing should be in place. The hotel itself is visually beautiful, but the service breakdowns significantly impacted what was meant to be a special trip.
I hope management takes meaningful steps to address these systemic issues.
