"Extremely uncomfortable sleep - tiny double bed for 2 people and there was an old creaky, loud fan and the room was unbearably hot even with the fan on all night and windows open. Give people a bigger bed and buy new modern quiet fans!"

"I paid full board including the evening meals as a birthday treat for my wife, which was quite a bit extra, but at the end of our stay they charged me again for dinners. The receptionist said that becouse I had not booked directly through them I was not entitled to do this, which ment paying twice for the meals, and that I was misinformed by the waitress who had said that the meals would be deducted from my final bill. The staff where very nice but didn't seem to know much about this situation...

"The property requires updating and is disorganised. The quality of breakfast was poor although there was plenty of choice. A number of staff were helpful Ebonie in the restaurant and a gentleman in reception."

"It was short walk from the train station and like 50 minutes from London. The restaurant in the hotel is pretty good and the bus to colchester city center is pretty good. The hotel was clean and check out was pretty easy as well."

"Great accommodation. Lovely , quiet room that was air conditioned. Lovely to have drinks in the fridge and L’Occtane toiletries. Great choice for breakfast and lovely staff . Would highly recommend and visit again ."

"Vanessa and Steve were exceptional hosts and the facilities at “The Foxes Den” suited us perfectly. Everything was most satisfactory and we ended our stay with a delicious full English breakfast which kept us going for quite a while!!! We would recommend a stay there to everyone visiting the area for a peaceful and very comfortable night."

"Had a really nice night’s stay with a 3 course meal each at the hotel’s restaurant and we got an upgrade to a balcony room for £15. Friendly staff and lovely luxury hotel with luxury amenities in the room too. Only improvement could be better air conditioning as the room was still quite hot even with fan unit and ceiling fan"

"Beautiful old property that is very well maintained. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Didn’t get to try the food but menu sounded great for breakfast lunch and dinner. Nice bar area with no TVs as a distraction. Would definitely stay here again."
