"The staff are always very pleasant and helpful, and check-in is smooth and friendly every time. Unfortunately, I’ve been disappointed with housekeeping on my last few stays. I’ve left the “Clean My Room” tag on the door when leaving in the morning, but returned to find the tag still there and the room untouched. I have mentioned this previously at reception, but sadly it doesn’t seem to have improved. Apart from this issue, I absolutely love staying here."

"My 3 daughters and I stayed one night here on a road trip. We had a suite which was not connected to the main hotel but in a quaint, hidden lot. The area was well lit and felt safe enough. The single beds were a bit uncomfortable with a hard bar across the center. The bathrooms were nice and clean with nice a shower and large tub. Check-in was quick and easy, and the desk staff were friendly. My only complaint was that the website states there is on-site laundry facilities but we were told that is false. When we asked about nearby services, we were told “I’m not from this area, so I don’t know.” (Wouldn’t be a big deal normally but we were in the middle of a driving trip and needed to do some wash.) Overall our stay was very nice."

"Staff nice but properly in need of refurbishment. Old worn carpets in bedroom and hall way and no wardrobe only hangers above bedside table. Lots of dust on chair and skirting board behind bedside table. Breakfast did not include coffee and there was no choice of water, juice or cereals. The hotel is very well located for some beautiful walks around Hayfield and is only 2 minutes away from the best Italian restaurant which we ate at for our 2 night stay."

"We love visiting this unique hotel. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The lido is spectacular. Our annexe room is spacious and has a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. The addition of a fridge in the room was very welcome."
The Lion Hotel

"Room was small but adequate with a comfortable bed. Unfortunately it was a hot weekend with no air-conditioning available. We took the quilt out of its cover so we could sleep under just the cover, and the quilt itself was badly stained, which gave a bad impression. When we mentioned this to reception they said they would "tell housekeeping". Generally the room decor was a bit tired. Continental breakfast was included which was fine. The pub is popular and has a good atmosphere, good beer, and a big beer garden. Car parking is convenient."

"Perfectly located to explore Matlock or Matlock Bath. Hotel was nice, the room was cosy and clean and the staff were very friendly. An enjoyable weekends stay."
Horsley Lodge Hotel

"Horsley lodge hotel is set in a lovely picturesque golf course. We enjoyed our stay there, but found our to be very noisy at night, as you could hear footsteps above the room & corridor. However we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the morning."
